Part 1：Programs of Chinese Governments Scholarship

 

1.   Bilateral Program

This includes full or partial scholarships in accordance with the educational exchange agreements or consensus between the Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities or international organizations. It supports undergraduate students, graduate students, general scholars and senior scholars.

Applicants shall apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study of their home countries.

 

2.  Chinese University Program

This is a full scholarship for designated Chinese universities and certain provincial education offices in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. It only supports undergraduates, postgraduate students and doctoral students.

Applicants shall apply to the designated Chinese universities undertaking this program.

 

3.   Great Wall Program

This is a full scholarship for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to sponsor students and scholars in developing countries to study and research in China. It only supports general scholars and senior scholars.

Applicants shall apply to the National Commissions for UNESCO in their home countries.

 

4. EU Program

This is a full scholarship to encourage students from EU member countries to study and research in China in order to promote mutual understanding between China and EU members. It supports undergraduate students, graduate students, general scholars and senior scholars.

Applicants shall apply to the Office for Education and Culture, Mission of the P. R. China to the European Union.

 

5. AUN Program

This is a full scholarship for the ASEAN University Network (AUN) to sponsor students, teachers and scholars from ASEAN member nations to study in China and to enhance the academic exchange and mutual understanding between China and ASEAN members. It only supports graduates.

Applicants shall apply to AUN Secretariat.

 

6. PIF Program

This is a full scholarship to sponsor students from Pacific island countries to study in China. It supports undergraduates, graduates, general scholars and senior scholars.

Applicants shall apply to Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat.

 

7. WMO Program

This is scholarship for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to sponsor international students to study and conduct research in meteorology, hydrology, and water resources supervision and management in China. It only supports undergraduates and graduates.

Part 2: Support conditions for scholarships

 

1, Supporting Categories

Chinese Government Scholarship programs sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to undertake degree studies (bachelor, master and PhD) and Chinese language study or academic research in institutions of higher education in China.

 

2, Duration

Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. The table below illustrates the duration of each program.

3, Instruction Language

(1) Undergraduate scholarship recipients must register for Chinese-taught credit courses. They are required to take one-year preparatory courses in one of the 10 universities listed below and to pass the required test before moving on to their major studies.

Undergraduate scholarship recipients can apply for preparatory course exemption if they completed their secondary education in Chinese or have a valid HSK certificate that meets the requirements of the host university. Official documents from secondary schools or a photocopy of a valid HSK certificate must be submitted for a preparatory course exemption application. Please NOTE that HSK results are valid for only 2 years.

Entrusted by MOE, the following 10 universities offer preparatory courses to undergraduate scholarship recipients. They are Tianjin University, Nanjing Normal University, Shandong University, Central China Normal University, Tongji University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Northeast Normal University, Beijing International Studies University, Capital Normal University, and the University of International Business and Economics.

 

(2) Graduate and non-degree scholarship students can register for either the Chinese-taught program or the English-taught program if applicable. All applicants are requested to provide their language proficiency certificates for the scholarship applications. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must provide a valid Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) certificate. Undergraduate or non-degree (general scholar & senior scholar) candidates should have achieved HSK Level III or above; Postgraduate candidates should have achieved HSK Level IV or above. Applicants for English-taught programs should provide valid English Proficiency Test (IELTS or TOFEL) certificates.

Scholarship recipients of Chinese-taught programs without adequate Chinese proficiency must take Chinese language courses for one to two academic years to reach the language requirements of their host universities before moving on to their major studies. Failure to reach the required language proficiency will lead to the automatic termination of scholarship. Chinese language courses will be one year for majors in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, West Medicine, Economics, Management, Legal Studies and Fine Arts, and be no more than two years for majors in Literature, History, Philosophy and Chinese Medicine.

Scholarship recipients of the English-taught programs or those with adequate Chinese language proficiency do not need to take Chinese language courses.

Part 4: What the Scholarship Covers

1, Full Scholarship

Tuition waiver:

Tuition funds will be comprehensively used by the host university. It may cover scholarship students’ education, administration costs and expenditures to support student activities.

Accommodation

free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy.

If the host university requires students to live on campus, the university will accommodate the scholarship students in a university dormitory (usually a twin room); if the host university permits students to live off campus, the university will provide monthly/quarterly accommodation subsidy:

undergraduate students (preppies), master’s students(general scholars): CNY 700 per month;

doctoral students (senior scholars): CNY 1000 per month.

Stipend

Undergraduate students: CNY 2,500 per month;

Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;

Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.

Within the scholarship duration, registered scholarship students will receive a stipend from their host university each month. Students registering on or before the 15thof the month will receive a full stipend of that month. Those who register after the 15thof the month will receive a half stipend of that month. Graduating students will receive stipend until half month after the graduation date. If registered student stays out of China for more than 15 days due to a personal reason (school holidays excluded), his stipend will be stopped during his leaving.

Part 5: Application Conditions and Process

1, Application Conditions

(1) Non-Chinese citizens, in good health;

(2) Educational background and age requirements:

●Applicants who come to China to study undergraduate majors must have a high school diploma, excellent grades, and be under the age of 25;

●Applicants who come to China to study for a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35;

●Applicants who come to China to study for a doctoral degree must have a master's degree and be under 40 years old;

●As a general scholar who comes to China to study, he must have a high school diploma or above, and he must be under 45 years old;

●Senior advanced students who come to China to study must have a master's degree or above or associate professor or above, and be under 50 years old.

 

2, Application process

(1) Apply to the above-mentioned relevant departments and obtain the qualification for recommendation;

(2) Contact the scholarship institution and get the pre-admission notice issued by the school;

(3) Log in to the "Chinese Government Scholarship Management Information System for Studying in China" (login to http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org, and then click the "Online Application Student Entrance" icon to enter ), fill in and submit the application information online, and print the "Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form". The operating instructions of the "Chinese Government Scholarship Management Information System for Studying in China" and the "Accepting Agency Number" can be consulted and obtained from the overseas student dispatching department of the country;

(4) Submit the application materials to the above-mentioned relevant departments within the specified time.

Note: The China Scholarship Council does not accept direct applications from individuals. The China Scholarship Council reserves the right to make necessary adjustments to the institutions of applicants who have not received the pre-admission notice.

 

3, Application materials

(1) "Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form" (filled in Chinese or English);

(2)  The first page of the passport. Applicants must submit a clear scanned copy of the first page of a Japanese ordinary passport with a validity date later than March 1, 2022. If the validity period of the current passport does not meet the requirements, please renew your passport in time. For applicants who are unable to apply for a passport before applying due to objective reasons, with the permission of the accepting agency, they can submit valid certificates or supporting documents containing their "English name, gender, nationality, date of birth" and other information.

(3) Notarized highest education certificate. If the applicant is a student at school, he/she must submit the expected graduation certificate or proof of enrollment issued by the school where he/she is studying.

(4) Academic transcripts. Documents in languages ​​other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations;

(5) Study or research plan in China. (Not less than 200 words for undergraduates, no less than 500 words for advanced students, no less than 800 words for graduate students), written in Chinese or English;

(6) Letter of recommendation. Applicants for master's or doctoral degree and applicants for an advanced scholarship to study in China must submit two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English;

(7) Students who apply for music majors must submit their own works; students who apply for fine arts majors must provide 2 sketches, 2 color paintings and 2 other works of themselves;

(8) Applicants under the age of 18 must submit relevant legal documents of their legal guardian in China;

(9) Applicants who have studied in China for more than 6 months must submit a copy of the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" (the original is kept by yourself. This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese Health and Quarantine Department and must be filled in in English). Applicants should strictly follow the required items in the "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" to conduct inspections. The "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" that is missing, does not have a photo of the person affixed, or the photo is not stamped with a seam seal, is not signed and stamped by the doctor and the hospital is invalid. The inspection result is valid for 6 months;

(10) No criminal record certificate. Applicants must submit a valid non-criminal record certificate issued by the local public security agency, usually within 6 months of the date of submission of the application.

The following materials are recommended to provide:

(11) Pre-admission notice issued by the host institution of Chinese government scholarship students;

(12) Proof of language ability. Such as HSK score reports, IELTS or TOEFL score reports.

Note: All materials uploaded through the system must be clear, true and effective. It is recommended that the applicant use professional equipment to scan the relevant documents that need to be submitted. The consequences caused by the unclear or unrecognizable uploaded materials shall be borne by the applicant.

 

Part 6: Some Special Scholarships

1, Chinese Government Marine Scholarship Program

The State Oceanic Administration of China and the Ministry of Education jointly established the Chinese Government Marine Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Marine Scholarship), which aims to provide outstanding young people from the South China Sea, Pacific and Indian Ocean neighboring countries and regions as well as African and American developing countries to study marine and related majors in China. Master's or doctoral degrees provide funding to train senior talents in related majors for developing countries in the region, strengthen international maritime cooperation and exchanges between countries, and promote the harmonious development of regional oceans. The China Scholarship Council is responsible for the enrollment and daily management of this marine scholarship.

Enrollment target

(1) Applicants must be citizens of non-Chinese nationality from the South China Sea, Indian Ocean, Pacific surrounding and island countries, as well as developing countries in Africa and America, and in good health;

(2) Applicants must apply for a graduate degree in marine-related majors;

(3) Personnel engaged in marine and related industries will be given priority.

Applicants' academic qualifications and age requirements

(1) Applicants for a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree, and the age is generally not more than 40 years old;

2, Ministry of Commerce Foreign Aid Advanced Degree Education Scholarship

In order to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with countries around the world and cultivate more elite talents for developing countries, the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China has specially established the "Special Program for Foreign Aid Advanced Degree Education". The special plan has been implemented since 2015, focusing on subsidizing middle-aged and young Chinese friends from recipient countries to study for a master's or doctoral degree in China, and entrusting the China National Scholarship Council to organize the implementation.

3. Chinese language training scholarship for "One Belt One Road"

In order to develop the friendly relations between Chinese trade unions and trade union organizations of various countries, to enhance the friendship between the Chinese working class and the working classes of other countries, and to contribute to world peace, development, cooperation, workers' rights and social progress, the establishment of the "Belt and Road" country trade union cadres Chinese Research scholarship program.

 

The scholarships are mainly set up by trade union officials from countries along the "Belt and Road".
