Overview
Six Munnar resorts compared by base area: Anakulam safaris, Top Station, Mattupetty and the Tea Museum, with trade-offs and which one wins for whom.
India
Where you sleep in Munnar decides how much of your day goes to a jeep, a lake road or a ticket desk. Three conditions settle it: the day plan you will not drop, the daily driving you will tolerate, and the airport you land at. So the answer is: it depends, on which of those three carries the most weight for you. Before I started writing, I spent years as a museum night guard in Portland, learning buildings by their quiet. I choose bases the same way, by what sits closest to the first outing of the day. Below, six resorts are compared by area, with advantages and disadvantages for each.
India
First, pick the day plan you will not give up: a long Anakulam jeep day, the high road to Top Station, the Mattupetty lake circuit or the Tea Museum. Second, decide how much driving you accept after sightseeing. Third, check how far you land from an airport. What visitors always asked me by the door was "how far is it?" Here the answer runs from 79 km (Misty Garden, from Cochin International Airport) to 135 km (The Cliff, from Kochi airport). If you want a wider shortlist, the full Munnar hotel listing is the place to widen it.
The table gives the one-line version. The hotel blocks that follow carry the specs and the disadvantages.
| Resort | Base area | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Treebo Misty Garden | Mankulam, Anakulam road | Elephant safari days | Not in Munnar town |
| Chandys Drizzle Drops | Top Station | High-road viewpoints, spa evenings | Airport figure quoted from Madurai |
| Eterno Camellia & Elettaria | Garden base on the Adimali side | Mountains, two pools | Every major sight is a drive |
| The Cliff | Pothamedu side, near town | Shortest outings to town and the dam | No pool listed |
| Tea Valley Resort | Pothamedu, inside a tea plantation | Plantation views | Fan-cooled rooms |
| Eden Woods | Chithirapuram | Slow wellness stays | Drives to most sights |
Anakulam is the elephant day, and the three safari listings differ in logistics more than in route. The Wild Life Anakulam Jeep Safari links Letchmi Tea Estate, the Viriparai and Perumbankuthu waterfalls, the hanging bridge, Tiger Cave and an elephant viewpoint. Guide-driver, entry fees, a meal and snacks are included. The Wild Elephant Visiting & Tribal village Safari uses 4x4 jeeps with river crossings and a permitted tribal village. It runs in two vehicles: road from Munnar to Mankulam, then off-road. The private Anakulam Jeep Safari Tour includes entry tickets, water and hotel pickup in the free pickup area.
I prefer the private tour for a fixed schedule and the 4x4 for the river crossings. Sightings depend on animal movement and are never guaranteed.
The two-vehicle safari changes from road transfer to jeep at Mankulam, so a bed there puts you at the handover point. The cost is that you are not sleeping in Munnar town. Tea Museum and Mattupetty days become separate drives, and I would not choose this base unless the elephants are the main reason you came.
Treebo Misty Garden Resort & Spa With Swimming Pool
INR6149 per night7.8 Good · 266 reviews ★ 3
Stay here for the Anakulam side; you trade a Munnar-town address for the Mankulam end of the safari road.
Family rooms have balconies, air-conditioning, a work desk and free WiFi. The resort has an outdoor pool, a tour desk, a 24-hour front desk, daily housekeeping and free off-site private parking. The restaurant serves Chinese, Indian and local dishes, with a buffet breakfast of juice and fruits. It is 79 km from Cochin International Airport, the shortest airport run of the six, and an airport shuttle is listed (Booking.com page ↗).
The high road is the best single day for viewpoints. Top Station is the highest point in Munnar, with panoramic views of the valleys and tea plantations. Echo Point sits on the Mattupetty Dam to Top Station road, so the two combine easily. Kundala Lake, the largest lake in Munnar, offers boating and fishing. I would give this circuit a full day, because the road is the slow part, not the sights. Ask each site's own ticket desk which day it closes, since hours are theirs to set.
Chandys Drizzle Drops - Munnar Top Station
INR22990 per night9.0 Superb · 89 reviews ★ 5
Stay here for the Top Station circuit; you trade a central Munnar address for a base on the high road.
Rooms have garden or mountain views and air-conditioning. The wellness list is full: spa, sauna, hot tub, outdoor pool, fitness classes, walking tours and cycling. The restaurant serves British, French, Indian and international dishes. Breakfast covers continental, buffet, vegetarian, halal and kosher. It is 121 km from Madurai Airport, and an airport shuttle is listed (official site ↗).
Eravikulam is the mountain day. The national park is home to the endangered Nilgiri tahr and has hiking trails. Anamudi, the highest peak in South India, is in the same area. The flower everyone asks about, Neelakurinji, flowers only once in twelve years. The flowering that began in July 2026 is centred on Chokramudi, Mattupetty and Korandakkad, not Eravikulam. Chokramudi's Kurinji Garden runs on timed slots managed by the Kerala Forest Department. Bloom was expected to continue into October if the weather stayed dry, so ask the Forest Department's ticket desk whether it is still in flower.
Eterno Camellia & Elettaria Luxury Resort Munnar
INR7285 per night8.0 Very Good · 43 reviews ★ 4
Stay here for a garden base with two swimming pools; you trade distance, because the listing puts Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Dam and Eravikulam National Park within 34 km, and the Tea Museum at 18 km.
Air-conditioned rooms overlook the mountains, with a flat-screen satellite TV and an electric kettle. On site are a garden, a terrace, a tour desk, luggage storage, free parking, BBQ facilities and car rental for sightseeing. Café De Vanilla serves Indian and international dishes. Adimali bus station is 10 km away and Cochin International Airport 110 km. It is one of the resorts in Munnar I would shortlist for scenery over convenience.
Mattupetty is the lake day. The dam and lake lie 13 km from Munnar, with boating facilities and a scenic viewpoint. The surrounding shola forests are often home to wild elephants. Echo Point and Kundala lie along the same road, so this day shares ground with the high-road circuit. I treat the dam as the easy first stop for anyone landing late, because it needs the least planning of any sight here. The 2026 bloom also covers the Mattupetty hillsides, so check with the Forest Department before you go.
The Cliff Resort, Munnar
INR4730 per night9.2 Superb · 28 reviews ★ 4
Stay here if Mattupetty is your anchor; you trade the pool and spa found elsewhere on this list for 7 km to Munnar and 16 km to Mattupetty Dam.
Rooms have a balcony, a television, free WiFi and a private bathroom. The resort has a restaurant, a barbecue, room service, free parking and a listed airport shuttle. Cycling and hiking are offered in the area. Kochi airport is 135 km away (Tripadvisor reviews ↗).
Tea heritage is the slow day. The Tea Museum at Nallathanni Estate traces the legacy of tea in the region since the 1880s. Exhibits include a 1905 Rotorvane, a Pelton Wheel and a rail engine wheel from the old Kundala Valley Railway. There is also a live processing demonstration and a tea tasting. Ask the museum's own ticket desk for demonstration times and its closing day. Pothamedu View Point looks over tea, coffee and cardamom plantations, best in early morning or late afternoon.
Tea Valley Resort, Munnar
INR5676 per night7.7 Good · 45 reviews ★ 4
Stay here to sleep inside the plantation scenery on the Pothamedu side; you trade modern cooling, because rooms list a fan.
The resort sits amid a tea plantation. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony, a flat-screen cable TV, a seating area and a shower. There is an outdoor pool, BBQ facilities, free parking, a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage and a tour desk for sightseeing bookings. The restaurant serves Indian, Chinese and continental dishes, with room service. It is 115 km from Cochin International Airport and 100 km from Coimbatore Junction Railway Station (Google Travel page ↗).
The calendar changes what a resort stay is worth. Onam is held between August and September. Visitors see Pookalams, Kathakali, Thiruvathirakali and Pulikali around Munnar town. Munnar Fest is held in December and January, with Kathakali, Theyyam, Mohiniyattam and tribal dances. Vishu falls in April. Dates shift year to year, so ask the local tourist information office. If you stay put for a festival stretch, I would rather be somewhere with a pool and yoga than a bed I leave at dawn.
Eden Woods Resorts And Spa
INR9461 per night7.8 Good · 130 reviews ★ 5
Stay here for a slow, facility-led stay in Chithirapuram; you trade proximity to the sights for a deeper wellness list.
Family rooms have mountain views, private balconies, air-conditioning and free WiFi. Facilities include an infinity pool, spa, sun terrace, open-air bath, hot tub, fitness room and yoga classes, plus walking tours and cycling. Parking is free on site. The restaurant serves Chinese, Indian, Asian and international dishes. Breakfast covers vegan, gluten-free, halal and full English/Irish options. It is 94 km from Cochin International Airport. See the rooms ->
By the figures above: elephants and river crossings favour Misty Garden. Viewpoints and spa evenings favour Chandys Drizzle Drops. Mountains and two pools favour Eterno, if you accept the drives. Tea-country windows favour Tea Valley. Slow festival stays and yoga favour Eden Woods.
My own pick for a first visit is The Cliff, because 7 km to Munnar and 16 km to Mattupetty Dam give the shortest outings. I would pair it with a Tea Museum afternoon and one Anakulam day. This comparison is unsponsored. Prices and availability can change, so confirm when booking, and see more places to stay across Kerala for the rest of the trip.
