"X1 visa" is valid for 30 days in China, so international students holding X1 visa must apply for "foreigner residence permit" within 30 days from the date of entry; students holding x2 visa can stay in China within the period specified in the visa, without residence permit.
（1） Apply for residence permit for the first time
For the convenience of freshmen, the school will organize students to go through residence permit procedures within the specified registration time; students who arrive after the specified registration time will go through the procedures by themselves.
Documents required for the first residence permit:
1. Visa application form for foreigners;
2. A copy of my valid passport (ordinary passport required) and visa;
3. Registration form of temporary accommodation;
4. Official letter of application for residence permit issued by your school;
5. The original of the admission notice of the school;
6. The original of visa application form for foreign students in China (JW202 / 201);
7. "Health certificate" issued by the local medical examination center of the school;
8. A recent two inch half body full face bareheaded photo and entry exit certificate photo detection collection receipt (take photos in a registered photo studio meeting the requirements of the entry exit administration and get the receipt);
9. Other materials required for entry and exit.
International students must leave the country before the expiration of their residence permit, and those who continue to study must apply for the extension of their residence permit 35 days before the expiration of their residence permit.
（2） Procedures for extension of residence permit:
Step 1: the applicant to the jurisdiction of the local police station for temporary accommodation registration;
Step 2: the applicant to the school for attendance certificate;
Step 3: the applicant should take the attendance rate certificate, a recent two inch half body full face bareheaded photo and exit entry certificate photo to the school, collect the receipt, and the school will issue the residence permit application letter for the applicant;
Step 4: the applicant should go to the exit Entry Administration Department of the city where the school is located to handle the extension and get the receipt;
If the applicant has completed the application for the residence permit for the following five years, he / she should call the "UnionPay" department to check whether he / she has received the receipt of his / her work permit for the next five years (for example, if he / she has completed the application for the residence permit for the last five years).
In case of suspension or drop out, the holder shall cancel the residence permit and replace it with a residence permit at the exit and Entry Administration Department of the city where the school is located within 10 days.
If applying for internship, students should apply for internship visa at the exit and Entry Administration Department of the city where the school is located three months before the formal internship and six months before the expiration of the study period. International students with internship visa can only practice in the place and time limit specified in the remarks column of the visa; international students with other types of visa are not allowed to work or practice in the field.
All kinds of visa and certificate shall not be altered, damaged, and violators will be punished. The passport and residence permit shall be kept properly. In case of loss, damage or theft, the passport and residence permit shall be reported to the local public security organ in time, reported to the school, applied for replacement, and declared invalid in the designated newspapers and periodicals.
International students should always check their passport, visa or residence permit to avoid overstaying. The international students themselves shall be responsible for the overdue residence permit and illegal detention caused by their failure to apply for residence certificates as required.
