Beijing Foreign Studies University is located on North West Third Ring Road, Haidian District, Beijing, with east and west campuses on both sides of the Third Ring Road.

It is directly under the Ministry of Education, the first batch of "211 Project" universities and "985" superior discipline innovation platform universities, The first batch of "double first-class" construction universities.




Beihai is the first foreign language college founded by the Communist Party of China. Its predecessor was the Russian Brigade of the Third Branch of the China Anti-Japanese Military and Political University established in Yan'an in 1941.

It later developed into the Yan'an Foreign Language School. The school was originally under the leadership of the Party Central Committee. After the founding of New China, the school was under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 1954, it was renamed Beijing Foreign Studies University. In 1959, it merged with Beijing Russian Academy to form the new Beijing Foreign Studies University.

After 1980, it was directly under the leadership of the Ministry of Education. In 1994, it was officially renamed Beijing Foreign Studies University.

BFSU has been approved to open 101 foreign languages. European and Asian-African languages are currently the largest non-universal language construction bases in my country, and they are the first batch of characteristic specialty construction sites of the Ministry of Education.

The school has formed a pattern of coordinated development of literature, law, economics, management, and other disciplines with foreign language and literature as the main subject.

BFSU currently has 33 teaching and research units. In recent years, the school has cooperated with the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom to establish the International Graduate School.

And successfully established the Xu Guozhang Institute for Advanced Language Studies, Wang Zuoliang Institute for Advanced Studies in Foreign Literature, Advanced Institute for Regional and Global Governance, and Comparative Civilization With many characteristic research institutions such as the Advanced Research Institute for Humanities Exchange.

Vigorously promote the reform of talent training mode, and establish the Beijing Foreign Studies College, the International Organization College, and the International Education College. Based on the original Asian-African College, it was expanded into the Asian College and the African College.

The school has a key research base for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education: China Foreign Language and Education Research Center, and the National Language Commission Research Center.

The school edited and published "Foreign Language Teaching and Research", "Foreign Literature", "International Forum", and "International Sinology" four CSSCI source journals, one CSSCI extended source journal "Foreign Language Education Research Frontier", published "Chinese Russian Teaching" and "Chinese Application" Linguistics (English), "International Chinese Language Education", "English Learning", "Eurasian Humanities Studies", "German Humanities Studies", "French-speaking Countries and Regions", "Regional and Global Development", "Juvenile Legal Education" and other publications. The school has the country's largest publishing base for foreign language books, audiovisual and electronic products: Foreign Language Teaching and Research Publishing House.

BFSU offers 121 undergraduate majors, 44 of which are the only majors in the country. The school has 4 national key disciplines (including cultivation disciplines) and 7 Beijing key disciplines.

There are 2 first-level discipline doctoral programs (foreign language and literature, management science and engineering), and 11 first-level academic master programs (law, political science, Marxist theory, applied economics, Chinese language and literature, foreign language and literature, Journalism and Communication, Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Education, World History).

8 professional master's programs (Finance, International Business, International Chinese Education, Translation, Journalism and Communication, Law, Accounting, MBA), covering There are six disciplines in literature, economics, management, law, education, and history.

In the results of the fourth round of national subject evaluation in 2017, the school's foreign language and literature first-level subject ratings were A+, ranking first in the country.

In 2018, the "QS World University Rankings by Subjects" was released, and the school's linguistics and modern languages once again entered the top 100 in the world, ranking first among similar universities in China. The school has 5,600 undergraduate students, 3,100 postgraduates (masters and doctors), and 1,600 international students.

BFSU focuses on innovating the talent management mechanism and comprehensively improving the level of the teaching staff. There are currently more than 1,200 faculty members and nearly 200 foreign teachers from 60 countries and regions.

The school has national-level young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, leading talents in philosophy and social sciences of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Program".

It communicates with 313 universities and academic institutions in 91 countries and regions in the world and communicates with the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, the School of Oriental and African Studies.

The Beihai Library has nearly 1.45 million paper books in Chinese and foreign languages, more than 2.22 million Chinese and foreign electronic books, 1,123 Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals, and 97 Chinese and foreign databases, forming a collection with language, literature, and culture as the main materials. Features.

In recent years, with the development of discipline construction, literature on politics, law, diplomacy, economy, news, and management has gradually formed a collection system.

The school has continuously strengthened the construction of informatization, formed an informatization framework of "open, interconnected, intelligent, innovative, and integrated", and developed several landmark achievements represented by multilingual websites, digital Beiwai, and data center software platforms.

Among them, the multilingual website project was launched in 2015 and supports 50 foreign languages. In 2018, it was approved as a pilot university for the Ministry of Education's artificial intelligence to promote the construction of teaching staff.
