Beijing International Studies University is a well-known university with foreign language and tourism as its dominant and characteristic disciplines, and the coordinated development of literature, management, economics, philosophy and other disciplines. It is training and research for talents in foreign languages, translation, tourism, economics and trade in China. Important base.

 

Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute was established in October 1964 on the basis of the original Xinhua News Agency Foreign Language Cadre School on the proposal of Premier Zhou Enlai himself. It is the first batch of colleges for undergraduate admissions in the country. Successively under the leadership of the National Foreign Cultural Liaison Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Beijing Municipal People's Government, the Ministry of Education and the National Tourism Administration. In February 2000, it was placed under the management of the Beijing Municipal People's Government.

 

Since the establishment of the school, the school has been adhering to the spirit of the school motto of "Ming Morality, Diligence, Seeking Truth, Competing for the First"(明德、勤学、求是、竞先), and has formed a style of study of "Integrating Chinese and Foreign, Knowledge and Action"(融中外、兼知行), and a teaching style of "Harmony, Easy Thinking, and Human Culture"(和易以思、人文化成). The profound academic tradition and unique school-running experience have produced a group of famous teachers. The senior translator Li Yueran, Su Qi, Zhou Xiqing, Dong Leshan, Guan Zhenhu, Li Chuansong, Wang Zhiyou, Wang Wenjiong, Shu Yu, and other senior translators in the early days of New China have all promoted and taught in the school.

The school is located in Chaoyang District, Beijing, adjacent to the Central Business District (CBD) to the west and Beijing Sub-City (Tongzhou) to the east. There are currently nearly 10,000 students of various types, including more than 6,300 undergraduates, 1,400 postgraduates, nearly 700 international students, and nearly 1,400 Guan Pei students. The school currently has 45 undergraduate majors (including 26 language majors), 5 first-level discipline authorization points for master's degree, 28 second-level discipline authorization points for master's degree, 6 professional master's degree authorization points, and 2 joint doctoral programs (Collaborate with Binghamton University in the United States to train a doctor of translation, and jointly train with the University of South Carolina in the United States to train a doctor of tourism), 2 post-doctoral research workstations (respectively jointly established with the Social Sciences Literature Press and the Capital University of Economics And Business). The school has a team of teachers with a reasonable structure of age, education, major and professional title. Currently, there are nearly 1,000 faculty members, among which more than 50% are full-time faculty members with doctoral degrees, and nearly 60% are associate professors or above. Most of the faculty members have experience in studying or working abroad. The school also employs more than 120 part-time professors and has more than 60 foreign experts.
