Confucius Institute Scholarship
To support the development of Confucius Institutes, facilitate Chinese language promotion and Chinese cultural transmission in the world, cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and talented students of Chinese language, Confucius Institute Headquarters launches the "International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship" program providing sponsorship to students, scholars, and Chinese language teachers of other countries for pursuing a study in relevant universities in China.
Beijing University of Technology provides 4 categories of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship this year: Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students, Scholarship for One-Semester Students, and Scholarship for Four-Week Study.
(1) Eligibility
1. Non-Chinese citizens.
2. In good Physical and mental condition, well performed both academically and behaviorally.
3. Aspired to take future careers in the teaching or international promotion of the Chinese language.
4. Between the ages of 16-35 on September 1st, 2021. Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers shall not exceed the age limit of 45, while undergraduate students shall not exceed the age limit of 25.
Note: Applicants under 18 years old should submit relevant legal documents of entrusted legal guardians in China.

(3) Scholarship Types and Qualification
1. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)
Commences September 2021 and provides a scholarship for a maximum of four academic years. Applicants must have graduated with a high school diploma, and have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 in the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
2. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study
Commences September 2021, and provides a scholarship for a maximum of 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.
A. TCSOL
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in the HSK test (Level 3), while an HSKK test score is required.
B. Chinese Language Study
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level 3), with the HSKK test score preferred.
3. Scholarship for One-Semester Study
Commences either in September 2021 or March 2022, and provides scholarship of a maximum of 5 months. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.
TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 3), while the HSKK test score is required.
4. Scholarship for Four-Week Study
Commences either in July or December of 2021 and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.
A. Chinese Language plus home-stay Experience in a Chinese Family
HSK test scores are required. Organized and applied by a recommending institution with 10-15 participants per group. Before the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made after consultation with host institutions and submit to CLEC for approval.
B. Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes
HSK test scores are required. Organized and applied by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants per group.
(4) Application
Online registration will be available from March 1, 2021, on the international Chinese Language Scholarship application website and the BJUT website.

E. A copy of highest graduation certificate or pre-graduation certificate (for TCSOL bachelor applicants)

I. A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity)
J. A copy of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (for TCSOL bachelor applicants)
3. Application deadline
A. April 15th (for those commencing in July)
B. May 15th (for those commencing in September)
C. September 15th (for those commencing in December)
D. November 15th (for those commencing in March 2021)
Once application materials are verified by the Division of Scholarships of Hanban as valid, host institutions will then review the eligibility of applicants and submit the admission list to Hanban. Hanban will complete the scholarship review and notify the results three months before enrollment of the admitted students.
