Beijing Technology and Business University is a key high-level research university in Beijing. In June 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to merge with Beijing Institute of Light Industry and Beijing Business School and to form the Institute of Mechanical Industry Management Cadres. Beijing Business School has successively been subordinated to the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Domestic Trade. Its predecessor was the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives Cadre School and the Central Commercial Cadre School. The All-China Supply and Marketing Cooperative Cadre School was established in early 1950, and the Central Commercial Cadre School was established in 1953. In 1958, the All-China Supply and Marketing Cooperative Cadre School was merged into the Central Commercial Cadre School. In 1959, the Ministry of Commerce was approved by the State Council to establish the Central Business School. In 1960, it was renamed Beijing Business School, and the Central Business Cadre School merged with Beijing Business School. In 1969, the Beijing Business School was closed due to the "Cultural Revolution", and in 1978, the State Council approved the resumption of enrollment. Beijing Business College is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning that specializes in cultivating economic management talents after the founding of the People’s Republic of my country. It is the first batch of master’s degree-granting units approved by the State Council. Founded in 1958, Beijing Institute of Light Industry is the earliest light industry college established in my country. Moved to Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province in 1970. In 1978, it was rebuilt on the original site in Beijing with the approval of the State Council. It was successively affiliated to the Ministry of Light Industry and the China National Light Industry Council. It mainly trains senior professionals for the light industry. The Mechanical Industry Management Cadre College was established in 1982 and is affiliated with the Ministry of Mechanical Industry. It is mainly for the training of management cadres in the machinery industry. So far, the school has trained more than 150,000 specialized talents at all levels and types for the country.
After the merger, Beijing Technology and Business University have entered a new period of development, and its comprehensive strength has been significantly enhanced. Now it has developed into a multidisciplinary university with science, engineering, economics, management, liberal arts, law, and arts that support each other and coordinate the development of disciplines. In accordance with the "characteristics, connotation, standard, and quality" policy, we will strive to achieve the development goals of high-level research universities with distinctive characteristics.
In August 2003, after the 20th meeting of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council reviewed and approved, the school became a joint training unit for doctoral students. Since 2004, it has jointly recruited and cultivated accounting doctoral students with the Central University of Finance and Economics. In June 2007, the school accepted the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the national ordinary colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education. In March 2008, the Ministry of Education convened a committee meeting of the National Expert Committee on Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation for Regular Colleges and Universities, and all members voted to determine that the evaluation result of the undergraduate teaching work of Beijing Technology and Business University was "excellent". In December 2012, the school food (including health food) additives and safety became the "Doctoral Talent Training Program for the Special Needs of the Country", and the title of the degree awarded was "Food Science and Engineering". In September 2014, the subject of "Food Science and Engineering" was approved to establish a new post-doctoral research mobile station. In September 2019, the subject of "Applied Economics" was approved to establish a new post-doctoral research mobile station. In May 2018, with the approval of the 34th meeting of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the school became a doctoral degree-granting unit, and applied economics, food science, and engineering were approved as a first-level doctoral degree authorization point.

From 2002 to 2012, our school was approved as four key disciplines in Beijing: applied chemistry, industrial economics, food science, and accounting, including applied economics, civil and commercial law, materials processing engineering, computer application technology, environmental engineering, and business management 6 key construction disciplines in Beijing. In 2019, our school's three disciplines, applied economics, food science and engineering, and business administration, were selected into the list of high-precision disciplines in Beijing universities. The school has 20 post-doctoral students (including 8 in joint training), 84 doctoral students, 2,897 master students, 1,2013 full-time generals higher education undergraduates, and 942 adult education students.
The school covers a total area of 830,000 square meters, including 210,000 square meters on the Fucheng Road campus and 620,000 square meters on the Liangxiang campus. The total construction area is 518,800 square meters, of which Fucheng Road Campus is 202,500 square meters and Liangxiang Campus is 316,300 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 3.025 billion yuan. The library has a total area of 25793.1 square meters. Up to now, the library has more than 1.86 million paper documents, 768 Chinese and foreign periodicals, 63 newspapers, 129.09 million e-books, and 98 Chinese and foreign databases.
Since the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period, we have seized opportunities, actively expanded the space for running schools, and constantly improved basic conditions. We have completed the reconstruction of the Fucheng Road campus and the first phase of the Liangxiang campus and other key construction projects in Beijing. The new area of the Liangxiang campus has reached 258,000 square meters. Mi, in October 2004, more than 8,000 students settled smoothly. In August 2020, the second phase of the Liangxiang campus completed the construction of a new 16,000 square meter student canteen and student activity center building and put it into use.
