Doctoral program

1. Training goals

China Central Academy of Fine Arts is a higher art institution directly under the Ministry of Education. It is an institution of higher learning that cultivates high-quality and high-quality art professionals with all-around development of morality, intelligence, and physique. It is currently listed as a first-class discipline construction university by the country. The school has a long history of running a school, profound academic accumulation, excellent teachers, a first-class teaching environment and facilities, representing the highest level of national art education and art creation research, and has a wide range of international influences.

China Central Academy of Fine Arts is one of the earliest colleges and universities to carry out postgraduate education in my country. The school currently has three academic degrees, doctoral-level disciplines of fine arts, design, and art theory. Our school is committed to cultivating high-end artistic talents with solid and broad basic theories and systematic and in-depth professional knowledge in art disciplines, and with creative and independent research capabilities. In 2021, our school will continue to recruit full-time doctoral students from all over the country. Students who complete all courses of the training program as required and meet the graduation requirements will be awarded a degree certificate; those who meet the relevant requirements for the award of a graduate degree from the Central Academy of Fine Arts will be awarded a doctorate. The full-time doctoral degree program lasts for three years.

 

2. Application conditions

(1) Citizens of foreign nationality who hold legal foreign passports, love China, and hold a friendly attitude towards the Chinese people.

 

(2) Those who have obtained a master's degree.

  • Fresh full-time academic and professional degree master's degree graduates (must obtain a master's degree before enrollment at the latest).
  • Those who have obtained a master's degree for the on-the-job master's degree personnel

 

(3) The physical health status meets the prescribed medical examination standards.

 

3. Registration

(1) Method:

Send the application materials to the mailbox of the International Students Office lxs@cafa.edu.cn.

For students in China, please mail a copy of the colored paper materials, with the address in Article 6 below. (Please send it by March 10th at the latest)

 

(2) Time:

From now on-March 10, 2021

 

(3) Application materials:

  • The completed "Application Form for International Students" (attachment after the brochure).
  • A copy of the master’s degree and degree certificate (certificates submitted by the graduate school or the Academic Affairs Office of the school where the graduate students are currently graduating).
  • Two recommendation letters from associate professors (or equivalent professional titles) or more related to the major you are applying for (attachment after the brochure).
  • Statement of my study and work experience, abilities, and achievements; HSK level 5 and above certificate.
  • Copy of valid passport photo page and visa page.
  • Two recent two-inch full-length color photos of me (with name and major on the back); at the same time, an electronic version of the photo must be submitted in the email.
  • Students of Chinese descent are required to submit a certificate of naturalization or birth certificate (if you have a Chinese household registration before, you must provide a certificate of cancellation)
  • The application fee is RMB 800.
  • In addition to the above-mentioned materials, candidates applying for the corresponding faculty must also submit the professional materials required by the faculty:

 

A: School of Humanities

Candidates of the School of Humanities must submit "Academic Papers" and "Future Research Project Reports" as required.

Requirements for submitting "Academic Papers":

Several academic papers (it must be noted that one of them is a representative work, and the total number does not exceed 5, PDF version). Investigate the academic quality of students' existing research results,

Professionalism, ability to find and solve problems, and creativity.

Requirements for submitting the "Future Research Project Report":

Candidates submit a future research plan (not less than 3000 words, PDF version). Future research reports must be written based on the direction of the major applied for. future

The research plan report must include the following three aspects:

① Select the purpose of the research direction, including a brief description of the personal undergraduate and master's study background, and the reasons for the selection of this direction.

② An overview of the latest status and progress of domestic and foreign research in this research field.

③Describe which aspect of your research work you plan to do in this research direction in your future graduate studies, what aspects do you think you should do in the future,

What methods are used to engage in cutting-edge research to promote the progress of the academic community?

 

B: Graduate School

Candidates for graduate school must submit "Academic Papers", "Professional Creation/Design", and "Future Research Plan Report" as required.

Requirements for submitting "Academic Papers":

Candidates submit a professional academic paper that corresponds to the direction of the application for the test. (PDF version)

Requirements for submitting "Professional Creation/Design":

Candidates must submit a total of 8-10 pictures of creations, assignments, and other works that are consistent with the direction of the application for the test, and can represent their professional level and artistic thinking.

High rate, JPG or JPEG format); or personal art creation/design/exhibition planning portfolio within 3 copies (PDF version, each file size is 80MB

Requirements for submitting the "Future Research Project Report":

Candidates submit a future research plan (not less than 3000 words, PDF version). Future research reports must be written based on the direction of the major applied for. not

The report of the coming research plan must include the following three aspects:

  • The purpose of selecting this research direction, the content includes a brief description of the personal undergraduate and master's study background and the reasons for selecting this direction.
  • An overview of the latest status and progress of domestic and foreign research in this field.
  • Describe in your future postgraduate studies, what research work you plan to do in this research direction, and what aspects and methods you think you should use in the future to engage in cutting-edge research to promote the progress of the academic community.

 

4. Exam

(1) The doctoral enrollment examination is divided into three stages: preliminary examination, preliminary examination, and re-examination. The first professional review is the submission of materials, the first test is a written test, and the re-test is an "interview defense" method. The score of the preliminary examination of the major is 150 points; the score of the initial test "Professional Writing" is 150 points; the score of the re-examination is 150 points. The major is divided into the sum of the scores of the preliminary examination, preliminary examination, and re-examination, with a full score of 450 points.

(2) Initial written test: "Professional Writing" Test time: 1:30-4:30 pm on March 24, 2021. Exam content: Combining the research direction of candidates, examine students' academic vision, academic accumulation, analysis and comprehensive ability, and writing and expression skills. Exam format: Take the online exam. The online exam operation manual will be released separately. Please pay attention to our school's official website.

(3) Re-examination Candidates who pass the preliminary examination will participate in the re-examination, and those who fail the preliminary examination shall not participate in the re-examination. The list of passing the preliminary examination will be announced on the school's official website in early April. The re-examination is conducted in the way of "interview reply". The specific retest time and format will be announced on the official website in early April 2021.

Interview time: April 13th-April 16th

  • Make a PPT for the report of the future research plan. Complete a 10-minute report statement and answer the questions raised by the examiner after the statement;
  • The PPT production requirements are concise and clear, and the core content of the report to be stated is presented through images and text, and other materials.

 

5. Admissions and categories

(1) Admission criteria: Ranking based on the total score of the major of the research direction, combined with interview results, HSK test scores, professional quality, and physical health status.

(2) Enrollment quota: The enrollment quota is determined by the school recruitment committee.

(3) Tuition fee standard: The current tuition fee standard is RMB 68,000 per academic year. If the tuition standard changes according to relevant national regulations before admission, the latest standard will prevail.

(4) Accommodation: Due to the renovation of the international student dormitory, the dormitory for international students will be suspended from September 2020.

 

6. Other

(1) Candidates should have good artistic ethics and promise that the submitted application materials are valid. Once the school discovers that the candidates have falsified, they will cancel their qualifications for examinations, admission qualifications, and even student status.
