As a university directly under the Ministry of Education, China Agricultural University is the origin of my country's modern agricultural higher education. Its history dates back to the Jingshi University School of Agriculture, which was established in 1905. In September 1949, the Agricultural College of Peking University, Tsinghua University, and North China University merged into Beijing Agricultural University. In October 1952, the Agricultural Machinery Department of Beijing Agricultural University merged with the Mechanized Agricultural College of the Central Ministry of Agriculture, North China Agricultural Machinery College, and Pingyuan Provincial Agricultural College to form Beijing Agricultural Mechanization College. In October 1985, it was renamed Beijing Agricultural Engineering University. In September 1995, Beijing Agricultural University and Beijing Agricultural Engineering University merged to form China Agricultural University. For a long time, the construction and development of the school have received great attention from the country. Beijing Agricultural University was listed by the State Council as one of the six key institutions of higher learning in the country in 1954, and in 1984 as one of the ten key institutions of higher learning in the country. Beijing College of Agricultural Mechanization was listed as one of the national key universities in 1960.


The school entered the first batch of "Project 211" construction in 1995 and was identified as a high-level research university for the key construction of "Project 985" in 2004. In 2017, it was selected as a first-class university construction university (Category A). On May 4, 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council visited China Agricultural University and delivered an important speech. On October 13, 2005, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress inspected China Agricultural University, congratulated the university for its centenary, and encouraged the school to make greater achievements. On May 2, 2010, General Secretary Hu Jintao wrote back to the teachers and students of China Agricultural University, encouraging them to make greater contributions to the development of modern agriculture. On September 15, 2012, Comrade Xi Jinping came to the school to participate in the National Science Popularization Day in Beijing. China Agricultural University has a strong and well-structured faculty. China Agricultural University has a complete education system for training bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.
