Introduction to Chinese Government Scholarship
In order to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and the people of other countries, and to develop exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in the fields of politics, economy, culture, education, economy and trade, the Chinese government has established scholarships to support outstanding students, teachers, and scholars from all over the world. Go to Chinese universities to study or conduct research. The Ministry of Education of China has entrusted the China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as the “China Scholarship Council”) to be responsible for the enrollment and management of Chinese government scholarship students. There are currently 279 Chinese universities undertaking the task of cultivating Chinese government scholarship students. Students can choose majors in twelve disciplines including science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, law, economics, management, education, literature, history, philosophy, and art.
The type of Chinese Government Scholarship:
1. Country-specific bilateral projects
Full scholarship or partial scholarship is provided in accordance with educational cooperation and exchange agreements or consensus reached between China and relevant governments, institutions, schools, and international organizations. This program can recruit undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students, general scholars and senior scholars.
Applicants should apply to the international student dispatching department of their home country.
2. Chinese colleges and universities independent enrollment project
The Ministry of Education of China provides full scholarships to the provincial education administrative departments of some provinces and autonomous regions in China and some Chinese universities for the direct selection and recruitment of outstanding young foreign students to study in China for postgraduate degrees. This project only enrolls master students and doctoral students.
Applicants should apply to the Chinese universities undertaking this project.
3. Great Wall Scholarship Program
A full scholarship was provided to UNESCO to support students and scholars from developing countries to study and research in China. This program only recruits general scholars and senior scholars.
Applicants should apply to the National Committee of UNESCO in their country.
4. China-EU Student Exchange Program
The full scholarship provided to students from EU member states aims to encourage students from EU member states to study and conduct research in China, and to enhance mutual understanding and exchanges. This program can recruit undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students, general scholars and senior scholars.
Applicants should apply to the Education and Culture Division of the Chinese Mission to the European Union.
5. China-AUN Scholarship Program
The full scholarship provided to ASEAN University Organization (AUN) aims to encourage young students, teachers and scholars from ASEAN member countries to study and exchange in China, and to enhance mutual understanding and friendship. This project only enrolls master students and doctoral students.
Applicants should apply to the ASEAN University Organization (AUN) Secretariat.
6. Pacific Islands Forum Project
The full scholarship provided to students from island countries in the Pacific region aims to encourage and subsidize young students from these countries to study in China. This program can recruit undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students, general scholars and senior scholars.
Applicants should apply to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
7. World Meteorological Organization Project
Scholarships are provided to the World Meteorological Organization to encourage students from all over the world who are interested in meteorological research to study and conduct research in China. This program can recruit undergraduates, masters and doctoral students.
Applicants should apply to the World Meteorological Organization.
Types of funding, duration, the language of instruction, institutions and types of professional funding:
Chinese government scholarships will fund outstanding foreign students, teachers and scholars to study in China for undergraduate, master and doctorate degrees, and to carry out Chinese or professional studies.
Funding period: The funding period of the Chinese Government Scholarship includes the period of professional study and Chinese language tuition (preparatory course), as shown in the following table:

Teaching language:
1. The language of instruction for undergraduates studying in China under Chinese Government Scholarship is Chinese. Chinese government scholarship students who come to China to study for a bachelor's degree must study Chinese and basic knowledge for a period of one year at a designated preparatory school. After passing the examination, they can start their undergraduate professional study.
*Those who meet one of the following two types of conditions can apply for preparatory education exemption:
①Foreign students who have completed secondary education using Chinese as the language of study. The application should be accompanied by a certificate issued by the school where the student graduated from the compulsory course of secondary education in Chinese.
②The Chinese proficiency meets the admission requirements for undergraduate education of the admission institution. A copy of a valid Chinese Proficiency Test (hereinafter referred to as "HSK") score report should be attached to the application. The HSK score report is valid for two years.
2. The language of instruction for postgraduates and advanced students studying in China is generally Chinese, and some schools can provide English for some majors.
①Scholarship students who choose to teach in Chinese and whose Chinese proficiency does not meet the professional learning requirements must participate in 1-2 years of Chinese learning, and can only start professional learning after they meet the admission requirements of the admission institution, otherwise, they will not be able to continue to study in China with the Chinese government scholarship. Among them: those who study science, engineering, agronomy, medicine (western medicine), economics, management, law and art, and the duration of Chinese study is one year; those who study literature, history, philosophy and medicine (Chinese medicine, traditional Chinese medicine), The duration of Chinese study should not exceed 2 years.
②Scholarship students who choose to teach in English or whose Chinese proficiency has reached the professional learning requirements do not need to participate in Chinese tuition.

1. Full scholarship
●Tuition:
The tuition is used by the school as a whole for the training and management of scholarship students, as well as for organizing or supporting scholarship students to carry out cultural and sports activities, visits, and parties
●Accommodation fees:
The school provides free dormitories or grants accommodation subsidies. For students who must live on campus according to school regulations, the school provides free dormitories, which are in principle double rooms; upon approval of the school, students who choose off-campus accommodation, the school pays accommodation fees on a monthly or quarterly basis. The standard is:
Undergraduates (preparatory students), postgraduates (general scholars): 700 yuan/month
Doctoral students (senior scholars): 1,000 yuan/month
●Living expenses:
Undergraduate: 2,500 RMB/month
Master's degree students and general scholars: 3,000 RMB/month
Doctoral students and senior scholars: RMB 3,500/month
Living expenses are paid by the school monthly. Scholarship students who register before the 15th (including the 15th) of the month will receive a full month's living allowance; those who register after the 15th will get half a month's living allowance; the living expenses of graduates will be paid to the graduation day determined by the school In the next half month; if the scholarship student leaves China for more than 15 days during the school period (except for normal holidays), the living allowance will be suspended during the period of leaving China.
