Dalian University of Technology is the first new formal university established by the Communist Party of China on the eve of the founding of New China for the construction of the new Chinese industrial system.

 

Dalian University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a key construction university in the national "211 Project" and "985 Project", and a world-class A-level construction university. The school aims at cultivating elite talents, promoting scientific and technological progress, inheriting excellent culture, and leading social trends, adhering to the spirit of "being inclusive of all rivers, self-improvement, ethics and learning, and the unity of knowledge and action" as the basic characteristics. Dalian University of Technology was established in April 1949, when it was the School of Engineering of Dalian University; in July 1950, the establishment of Dalian University was revoked, and the School of Engineering of Dalian University became independent of Dalian Institute of Technology; in October 1960, it was confirmed as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education; The graduate school was established in April 1986; the name was changed to Dalian University of Technology in March 1988; the "211 Project" was launched in 1996, and Dalian University of Technology was jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Liaoning Province, and Dalian City; the "985 Project" was launched in 2001 Construction, the Ministry of Education, Liaoning Province, and Dalian City will focus on the joint construction of Dalian University of Technology; in 2003, it was designated as a school for central management officials by the central government. In December 2012, the Ministry of Education officially approved Dalian University of Technology to build the Panjin campus in accordance with the guiding ideology of "overall planning, dislocation development, adherence to standards, and innovative models" to run schools at the same standards, grades, and levels as the main campus. In September 2017, approved by the State Council, it was selected into the list of world-class universities for construction of Class A.

 

The school has 4173 faculty members, including 2642 full-time teachers. The school is surrounded by mountains and the sea, and the conditions for running the school are excellent. A school structure has been formed with one school, two places (Dalian City, Panjin City), and three districts (Dalian Lingshui main campus, development zone campus, and Panjin campus), with a total area of 3,571,300 square meters and a building area of approximately 1,882,500 square meters Meter. Dagong e-station self-service area provides information-based self-service for teachers and students throughout the year. The construction and application of informatization are at an advanced level among domestic colleges and universities.

 

The school is planning new actions in the overall situation of the country’s opening up, creating a new pattern of international schooling, and actively participating in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” education initiative and building a community with a shared future for mankind under the guidance of the international strategy of "self-centered and open schooling". 260 well-known overseas universities and 23 scientific research institutions in 37 countries and regions have established long-term and stable inter-university cooperation. At present, the school has 3 Chinese-foreign cooperative education institutions (the cooperative universities are Ritsumeikan University in Japan, the University of Leicester in the UK, and the Belarusian National University), and 1 Chinese-foreign cooperative education project (the cooperative university is the University of California, Irvine). The school has more than 150 overseas exchange programs including national public dispatch, joint training, exchange learning, short-term exchange visits, overseas internships, etc. In recent years, it has sent more than 2,000 long-term and short-term exchanges to foreign countries (overseas) each year; it hires long-term and short-term overseas experts annually. There are more than 700 scholars, and nearly 20 national-level foreign cultural and educational expert projects have been approved. The annual average number of teachers is more than 1,700 for long-term and short-term overseas (border) public assignments, advanced studies, conferences, and visits; as of November 2020, the number of international students in the school is 1,194 .
