Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

 

To expand cultural exchanges between China and South Asian countries, and promote the localization of Chinese language teachers in South Asian countries, the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban (hereinafter referred to as Hanban) established the Confucius Institute Scholarship Program for Chinese Language Teachers in South Asian Countries.

 

Nationality of application target: Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, India

 

Master of Chinese Language Education

Funding period:

2 academic years

 

Registration conditions:

1. Non-Chinese nationality, under the age of 35, with a bachelor's degree or equivalent academic qualifications;

2. Chinese proficiency must reach 180 points for HSK Level 5 and 60 points for HSKK Intermediate Level;

3. An agreement must be signed with Hanban; the applicant who provides the work agreement or relevant certification of the teaching institution to be taught after graduation is preferred.

 

Funding method:

1. Free of tuition and accommodation fees, and living expenses of 3,000 yuan per month;

2. Provide one round-trip economy class air ticket between your home country's place of residence and the university you are studying in every academic year.

Note: After enrollment, all scholarship students must participate in the annual review, and only after their academic performance and Chinese proficiency test meet the review requirements can they continue to enjoy the scholarship in the second academic year.

 

Undergraduate course, preparatory course + undergraduate course (1+4)

Funding period:

4 years for undergraduate, 5 years for preparatory course + undergraduate funding

 

Registration conditions:

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals, under the age of 25, and have a high school diploma;

2. To apply for an undergraduate Chinese level, you must have a score of 180 in HSK Level 3 and a score of 60 in HSKK Intermediate Level;

3. An agreement must be signed with Hanban.

 

Funding method:

1. Free of tuition and accommodation, living expenses of 2500 yuan/month;

2. Provide one round-trip economy class air ticket between your home country's place of residence and the university you are studying in every academic year.

Note: After enrollment, all scholarship students must participate in the annual review, and only after their academic performance and Chinese proficiency test meet the review requirements can they continue to enjoy the scholarship in the second academic year.

 

Short-term intensive Chinese training (one academic year/semester)

Funding period:

11 months for one academic year, 5 months for one semester

 

Registration conditions:

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals, students in Chinese and related majors, and no experience in studying in China;

2. To apply for a school year's Chinese proficiency, you must have a score of 180 in HSK Level 3 and a score of 60 in HSKK for elementary level;

3. To apply for a semester of Chinese proficiency, you must have a score of 120 at HSK Level 2 and a score of 60 at HSKK Elementary Level.

 

Funding methods:

Free of tuition and accommodation fees, and living expenses of 2500 yuan per month.

 

Application method

Step 1: Fill in the online application form

Applicants log on to the scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn), register, fill in the "Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form" and upload electronic scans of relevant certification materials as required.

* Applicants who choose the 1+4 project, please select "Undergraduate", and note "1+4" after the Chinese name, such as "wangwei1+4"

* All applicants are asked to check "Yes" in "Is the Hanban Teachers Office Project?"

 

Step 2: Contact the "recommending agency" for online recommendation

About recommending institutions:

1. The recommended institutions are mainly as follows:

1) Confucius Institutes operating for more than half a year/independent Confucius Classrooms: inquire at www.hanban.org

2) Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) test sites with the right to recommend scholarships: inquire through www. Chinese test.cn

3) Organizers of the overseas competition areas of the "Chinese Bridge" competition: Education and Cultural Sections (groups) of Chinese Embassies (Consulates), Confucius Institutes and related educational institutions, please contact chinesebridge@hanban.org

2. After the applicant selects a recommending institution and submits an online application, please contact the recommending institution for an online recommendation.

 

Step 3: Send the paper application materials

1. "Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form"

2. A scanned copy of the passport photo page.

*Applicants under the age of 18 must be formally entrusted by their parents to be a foreigner or Chinese resident in China as the guardian of the foreign student, and submit notarized materials of the guardian's guarantee letter.

3. Scanned copy of HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for 2 years). Online results are not accepted.

*Winners who come to China to participate in the "Chinese Bridge" semi-finals can provide the "Chinese Bridge" award certificate and the "Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate".

4. Recommendation letter issued by the person in charge of the recommending institution

5. The highest degree certificate (certificate of expected graduation) and school transcripts.

*Certificates of expected graduation or school studies, transcripts, if not in Chinese or English, need to provide corresponding notarized documents; the highest degree certificate and transcripts need to be stamped in originals, and photocopies and color copies are not accepted.

6. Applicant's personal statement (Chinese learning background, study plan and goals in China, etc.). Please write it in Chinese or English, print it, and attach the applicant's signature.

7. A copy of the "Examination Records of Foreigners". This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese Health and Quarantine Department and must be completed in English. The "Foreigner Physical Examination Record" that is missing, does not have a photo of the person affixed, or the photo is not stamped with a seam seal, is not signed and stamped by the doctor and the hospital is invalid.

Step 4: Wait for the video interview notice

The School of Chinese as a Foreign Language of East China Normal University will organize interviews for the undergraduate and master students who have passed the review. The interview can be a skype video interview or an on-site interview. The interview time will be notified by email and phone, please make sure to provide valid contact information.

 

Matters needing attention

1. Faxes of application materials will not be accepted.

2. Applications from incomplete application materials will not be accepted.

3. Regardless of whether the applicant is admitted or not, the above application materials will not be returned.

4. If the application materials are falsified or filled out and submitted by others, once verified, the application qualification will be canceled.

5. Winners who are unable to register for some reason should inform the receiving institution in writing and indicate the reason 15 days before the registration date. Those who fail to register without reason will be disqualified for scholarships.

6. The scholarship qualification will be canceled if the entrance physical examination is unqualified, or if you withdraw from school or suspend your studies halfway through.
