The end of the "Huawei cup" competition
On April 24, the 17th "Huawei Cup" China Graduate Mathematical Modeling Contest hosted by East China University of Science and Technology came to an end in Shanghai.
The University of Shanghai For Science And Technology, Southeast University, Tongji University, Central South University, Shanghai University, More than 200 representatives of award-winning graduate students and more than 250 representatives of experts and teachers from more than 100 universities and research institutes across the country, including East China Normal University, participated in the awards ceremony.
More than 10 original reports were published by Guangming Daily Client, CCTV, Science.com, China News, Xinmin.com, First Education, Thoughtful Shanghai, Youth Shanghai, Shanghai Science and Technology News, Chatterbox, etc., and related reports on the competition.
"How to achieve mathematical modeling to reduce the loss of octane in the gasoline refining process?" This is a real problem encountered by petrochemical companies in the process of solving the contradiction between social and economic benefits.
It is also a question that has attracted the most attention of contestants in the 17th China Postgraduate Mathematical Modeling Contest in the just-concluded "Huawei Cup".
From data analysis to problem-solving, from independent learning to independent innovation, from independent thinking to teamwork, it is the purpose of the 17th "Huawei Cup" China Graduate Mathematical Modeling Competition to cultivate the original innovation ability of high-level talents.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Away to simplicity, everything is counted”. The expert group of propositions focuses closely on green development, focusing on the practical issues of technological innovation in major national projects and key areas, and combining the strategic priorities of the country’s 14th Five-Year Plan.
Designed 6 mathematical modeling problems that not only conform to the characteristics of graduate students' innovative thinking but are also very close to the actual needs of production and life.
According to Ouyang Fusheng, a member of the proposition expert group and the School of Chemical Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology: "The competition questions closely integrate the frontiers of science and technology and practical applications, providing a good platform for the majority of graduate students to integrate theory with practice and solve application problems with academic knowledge.
For participating graduate students, These competition questions have clear goals and easy to start, but it is indeed difficult to finally come up with a solution suitable for actual industrial adjustment.
To solve these problems, the participating teams should not only have rigorous scientific thinking, keen analytical judgment, and proficiency The ability to use mathematical tools also requires efficient division of labor and collaboration among team members and a gradual attack on the spirit of overcoming difficulties."
It is reported that this competition attracted 17,219 teams from 523 universities and some research institutes from 34 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, special administrative regions, and foreign countries to register for the competition, an increase of 8.3% over the last year. In the end, a total of 14436 teams from 504 training units with 43308 people completed the competition, an increase of 3.0% over the previous year, and the number of applicants and participants reached a record high.
After review by the expert committee and the organizing committee, a total of 188 first prizes, 1926 second prizes, and 2896 third prizes were selected. The total number of first, second, and third prizes was 34.7%.
After the awarding conference, the participating teams held academic seminars in six sub-venues according to different competition topics.
