International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship

To cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and promote the development of Chinese language education all over the world, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (hereinafter to be collectively referred to as “the Center”) launches “International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship” (Confucius Institute Scholarship) to support outstanding students, scholars and currently employed Chinese language teachers recommended by Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, HSK test centers, Chinese language education departments in foreign universities and organizations, as well as  Chinese consulates abroad (hereinafter to be collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) to study in Chinese universities and colleges. Hebei University is one of the host institutions since 2009.

 

1. Qualifications

All applicants shall be

1.1 Non-Chinese citizens

1.2 In good Physical and mental health, well performed both academically and behaviorally

1.3 Aspired to pursue future careers in Chinese language teaching or international promotion of the Chinese language.

1.4 Between the ages of 16-35 (by September 1st, 2021). Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers should be under age 45, while undergraduate students should be under 25.

 

2. Scholarship type 

2.1 Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

This program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarships for a maximum of two academic years. 

Applicants shall be Bachelor's degree holders and have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 in the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

Applicants who can provide notarized employment agreement documents or related proofs upon completing study in China are preferred. 

2.2 Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)

This program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarships for a maximum of four academic years.

Applicants must have graduated with a high school diploma, and have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 in the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). 

 

3. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

This program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarships for a maximum of 11 months.

International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

 

3.1 TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in the HSK test (Level 3), while the HSKK test score is required.

 

3.2 Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 in the HSKK test (intermediate level).

 

3.3 Chinese Language Study

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level-3). Applicants with HSKK scores would be considered favorably.

 

4. Scholarship for One-Semester Study

This program commences either in September 2021 or March 2022 and provides a scholarship of a maximum of 5 months. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

 

4.1 TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 3), while the HSKK test score is required.

 

4.2 Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture

HSK test scores are required. Applicants with HSKK scores would be considered favorably.

 

5. Scholarship for Four-Week Study

This program commences either in July or December of 2021 and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants withholding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible.

5.1 Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture;

5.2 Chinese Language plus home-stay Experience in a Chinese Family;

5.3 Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes

For these three categories, HSK test scores are required. It will be organized and applied through a Confucius Institute, with 10-15 participants per group. Before the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made after consultation with Hebei University and submitted to the Center for approval.

 

6. Cooperative Scholarship

6.1 Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) (quota 10)

This program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarships for a maximum of two academic years. 

Applicants shall be Bachelor's degree holders and have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 in the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).

Applicants who can provide notarized employment agreement documents or related proofs upon completing study in China are preferred. 

6.2 Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study (quota 20)

This program commences in September 2021 and provides scholarships for a maximum of 11 months.

International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

6.2.1  TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in the HSK test (Level 3), while the HSKK test score is required.

6.2.2  Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 in the HSKK test (intermediate level).

6.2.3 Chinese Language Study

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in the HSK test (Level-3). Applicants with HSKK scores would be considered favorably.

 

7.Application procedure

Online registration will be available from March 1, 2021, on the Confucius Institute Scholarship website (cis.Chinese.cn).

Please log on to search recommending institutions and host institutions, upload application materials online (applicants for cooperative scholarship need to select relevant program marked with “cooperative” from the category of scholarship type), and track the application progress, feedback of review, and admission results.

Scholarship holders need to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the CIS certificate online, and register at Hebei University at the designated date and time as per the letter of admission.

The application deadlines:

7.1 April 15th (for those commencing in July)

7.2  May 15th (for those commencing in September)

7.3   September 15th (for those commencing in December)

7.4  November 15th (for those commencing in March 2022)

The Center will complete the scholarship review and publish the results three months before enrollment. 

 

8. Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Document

8.1 For all applicants

8.1.1 A Scanned copy of the passport photo page

8.1.2 A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).

8.1.3 A Recommendation letter by the head of the recommending institutions

 

8.2 For degree scholarship program applicants

8.2.1 A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.

8.2.2 Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL Students are required to provide 2 recommendation letters from professors or associate professors. Those who can provide a notarized employment agreement with teaching institutions are preferred.

8.2.3 Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a recommendation letter from the employer.

8.2.4 Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

8.2.5 Applicants shall also provide additional documents required by Hebei University.

 

9. China Bridge Award winner policy

Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2021 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” shall log onto the scholarship website and submit documents to relevant host institutions upon presentation of their CIS certificates. Please contact chinesebridge@hanban.org for an inquiry.

 

10. Others

10.1 Applicants should be aware of the detailed application requirement and deadlines of Hebei University and submit application documents as instructed.

10.2 Degree students shall accept the annual assessment under the Annual Appraisal Procedures of Confucius Institute Scholarship

10.3 Those who failed to register on time without reason, failed to pass the health assessment, dropped out midway, and/or suspended will be deprived of scholarships.

10.4 Scholarship winners who cannot register for some reason should inform the university via E-mail 15 days before the registration deadline and explain.
