About Inner Mongolia Agricultural University

Inner Mongolia Agricultural University is a multidisciplinary university with eight disciplines including agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and art, with a focus on agriculture and forestry, and grassland animal husbandry. A complete higher education system of colleges, bachelors, masters, and doctors. In 2001, it became a university supported by the “One Province, One School” of the National Development of Western Regions. In 2012, it became a “provincial joint construction” university by the State Forestry Administration (now the State Forestry and Grassland Administration) and the People’s Government of the Autonomous Region. It entered the country in 2013. The Central and Western Higher Education Revitalization Plan supports the ranks of colleges and universities.


1. History

In 1952, the former Hebei Agricultural College, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of the Plains Agricultural College, and the veterinary specialty of Shanxi Agricultural College moved to Guisui (now Hohhot), and the Inner Mongolia College of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, the first undergraduate college in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was established. In 1958, the Inner Mongolia Forestry College was established. In 1960, Inner Mongolia College of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was renamed Inner Mongolia College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. In 1999, Inner Mongolia Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College and Inner Mongolia Forestry College merged to form Inner Mongolia Agricultural University.


2. School scale

The school now has 23 departments (including vocational and technical colleges) including the College of Animal Science, and there are 35080 full-time students in general higher education (28,561 in the main department). There are 4583 graduate students (including 3067 full-time students) and 639 doctoral students. There are 154 international students. The school covers a total area of 14,000 acres (including the science and technology park), and the campus covers a total area of 3,360 acres (the main campus is 2,630 acres). The school’s main teaching and administrative buildings cover an area of 409,200 square meters, 4 standard track and field venues (halls), and a total value of 1 billion yuan in teaching and research equipment.


3. Major

The school currently has 1 national key discipline, 3 national key cultivation disciplines, 23 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, and 11 first-class construction disciplines in the autonomous region. There are 12 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 13 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 24 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, and 8 professional master degree authorization categories. There are 82 undergraduate majors in general higher education, 2 pilot projects (including 8 majors) of the National Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program, 7 national-level characteristic majors, and 1 national-level comprehensive reform pilot major.


4. Faculty

There are 1351 full-time teachers in the school headquarters, 761 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 56.32% of the total number of full-time teachers; 1195 teachers with a master's degree or above, accounting for 88.45% of the total number of full-time teachers, of which doctorate teachers account for 52.11%. 5. Teaching

The school currently has 1 national-level teaching team and 23 autonomous region-level teaching teams. There are 5 national quality courses, 2 national quality resource sharing courses, 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, and 22 industry-university cooperative education projects of the Ministry of Education. There are 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national off-campus practice education base for college students, 1 national college student cultural quality education base, and the first batch of agricultural science and education cooperation talents from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture Three culture bases. During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, 6 national-level education and teaching reform research projects and 175 autonomous region-level projects were undertaken. 6. Scientific research

Since the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", the school has presided over nearly 3,000 scientific research projects at various levels and has received more than 1.2 billion yuan in scientific research funds. There are 576 scientific fund projects with total funding of 275 million yuan; 5 projects in the "13th Five-Year Plan" national key research and development plan have been presided over with total funding of 129 million yuan. In 2017 and 2018, agricultural sciences entered the top 1% of ESI in the world, and 3 achievements in the research fields of characteristic animal genomes and lactic acid bacteria were published in "Nature Communications". 7. Social service

In 2013, the school was included in the second batch of National Colleges and Universities New Rural Development Research Institute construction plan. Thirteen scientists and comprehensive experimental station teachers were selected for the "13th Five-Year" national modern agricultural industrial technology system. The school was approved as a national-level professional and technical personnel continuing education base, and 2 autonomous region science demonstration bases were approved. In 2018, the Rural Revitalization Research Institute was established to comprehensively coordinate and manage the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and social services. Through the "school-local-enterprise" cooperation, 7 comprehensive test stations for rural revitalization, more than 30 characteristic industrial bases, and technology service points have been built. The results of self-cultivation and development of probiotic strains and veterinary vaccines have been transformed, and the contracted amount has accumulated more than 50 million yuan. In recent years, the average annual contract value of the school's horizontal projects is more than 20 million yuan. Since 2013, 146 scientific and technological training courses at all levels and various types have been carried out, and more than 8,000 scientific and technological talents of various types have been trained in and outside the region. The school has signed strategic cooperation framework agreements with Zhengda Group, Yili Group, Mengniu Group, Mengcao Drought Relief Group, Jinyu Group, Sino Sheep Industry, Minfeng Potato Industry, and other enterprises. The school and the People's Government of Taiyou Banner jointly built the "Chilechuan Agricultural Expo Park", and 30,000 square meters of smart greenhouses and 24 acres of sunlight greenhouses were completed and put into use.


8. Open school

It has established inter-university cooperation and academic exchanges with more than 70 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia, Japan, and Mongolia. In 2012, the school became the contractor of the foreign aid training project of the Ministry of Commerce, undertook 25 multilateral and bilateral foreign aid training sessions, and trained more than 600 trainees from 52 countries. In 2015, the school became the "Ministry of Education Study Abroad Training and Research Center", and it has trained more than 8,000 students. The school has implemented the "2+2" cooperative education project since 2005 and sent a total of 248 students to study in foreign cooperative colleges and universities. Since 2005, the school has enrolled international students and has enrolled 526 international students from 15 countries including Mongolia and Russia.


9. Social honor
