I. Category

1. Language Student: Applicants must be healthy, non-Chinese citizens with a high school diploma (or above). The age is over 18 and under 60 years old.

2. General Scholar: Applicants must be healthy, non-Chinese citizens with a high school diploma (or above) or be an undergraduate. The age is over 18 and under 60 years old.

3. Senior Scholar: Applicants must be healthy, non-Chinese citizens with a master's diploma (or above) or be a graduate. The age is over 18 and under 60 years old.

Deadline for the application for the fall semester: June 30. The registration is at the beginning of September (subject to Admission Notice)

Deadline for the application for the spring semester: December 31. The registration is during the middle to late February (subject to Admission Notice)

V. How to Apply and Materials Required

1. Please register at the website: http://nankai.17gz.org and complete the online application.

2. Upload scanned documents of relevant materials as required

A. Notarized diploma of the highest level of education obtained. Applicants expecting to graduate this academic year must submit an official document issued by their current school to prove their current student status and expected graduation date.

B. Complete academic transcripts of the highest level of education.

C. Personal statements, Chinese or English, including a study or research plan, financial situation, reasons for scholarship application, honors and awards, personal strengths, etc. (no less than 800 words)

D. Certificate of Language Proficiency

a. HSK for Chinese-taught course

b. TOEFL or ITELS for English-taught course

E. Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The physical examination must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms, forms without the signature of the attending physician or the official stamp of the hospital, or forms without a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule, as the result will be valid for only 6 months.

F. Certificate of no criminal record issued by the relevant local authority.

G. Photocopy of passport (ordinary passport and must be valid until April 1st, 2021 or later).

H. The application fee receipt.

Supplementary Materials

I. Other materials that can prove the applicants’ learning ability and comprehensive abilities, such as award certificates in sports or the arts, specialty certificates, published papers, undergraduate admission notices issued by other universities, etc.

Note: All of the above application materials should be either in Chinese or in English. For documents or certificates other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required.

3. Submit the application form and pay the registration fee.

4. Regularly check your email for personal application updates in case any changes or supplements of your materials are required.

VI. Scholarships

1. Chinese Government Scholarship

Scholarship Value: Exemption from tuition fee, Application Fee, and on-campus accommodation fee; provision of coverage of comprehensive medical insurance and a living allowance. Applicants should apply to the Chinese Embassy in applicants’ countries rather than going to Nankai University for acceptance.

2. Confucius China Studies Program

Scholarship Value: Exemption from tuition fee and Application Fee; provision of coverage of living allowance, accommodation fee, research expenses, international round-trip travel expenses, comprehensive medical insurance, and research expenses for foreign supervisors in China. Applicants must be Ph.D. candidates in foreign universities.
