"Cultural concentric campus tour" series of lectures into NUIST


On May 12, a series of cultural lectures on the "Cultural Concentric Campus Tour" was held in our school. Professor Xiao Ping, a member of the Chinese Association for the Promotion of Democracy, a first-class artist of Jiangsu Chinese Painting Academy, a famous calligrapher, painter, appraiser, collector, and historian, was invited to give a lecture on "Aesthetic Pursuit in Traditional Chinese Painting". Zhu Yimin, full-time deputy chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of Democratic Progress, Guan Zhaoyong, secretary of the school party committee, Chen Tao, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee, Yin Yan, chairman of the school's Democratic Progressive Branch, and Zhou Yue, director of the Humanities and Arts Education Center, attended the event. Nearly 200 branch members, teachers, and students attended the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Guan Zhaoyong.


Guan Zhaoyong expressed his welcome and gratitude to Zhu Yimin and his party for coming to the school to carry out the "Cultural Concentric Campus Tour" activity and explained the significance of the activity. He pointed out that the development of the activity is an important measure for the in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping’s new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and the "Regulations on the United Front Work of the Communist Party of China". A series of new concepts, new thoughts, and new viewpoints, actively practice the core values of socialism and inherit and promote the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation. Activities are essential for adhering to the direction of advanced socialist culture with Chinese characteristics, enriching the content of campus cultural activities in colleges and universities, building a diverse, harmonious, active, realistic, and innovative new era campus cultural atmosphere, exploring the characteristics and laws of campus cultural development under the new situation, and innovating forms and contents It is of great significance to enhance the pertinence, effectiveness, attractiveness, and appeal of cultural education work. He hopes that the teachers and students present will cherish learning opportunities, fully appreciate the demeanor of famous masters, learn something for thought, learn something, and learn something useful.


In the lecture, Xiao-Ping started from the silk paintings unearthed in the Western Han Dynasty and talked about the history of Chinese painting for more than 7,000 years from the Neolithic period to the present. With the help of the "Six Laws" in Xie He's book "Paintings", he described the artistic charm of Chinese painting in six aspects, including vivid charm, bone method and use of brush, corresponding object pictogram, coloring according to a category, business location, transfer, and copying. , It summarizes the all-around aesthetics of Chinese painting and expounds on the difference between traditional Chinese painting and Western painting. Xiao-Ping emphatically commented on the landscape paintings, figure paintings, and flower-and-bird paintings in Chinese paintings. He believed that the aesthetic pursuit of traditional Chinese painting has two major characteristics: comprehensiveness and semi-abstract. He emphasized the integration of poetry, writing, painting, and printing, following a semi-abstract style. It has a distinct national characteristic and independent aesthetic system. He also led the teachers and students to read the "You Chun Tu" by Zhan Ziqian of the Sui Dynasty, the "Snow Creek Picture" by Wang Wei of the Tang Dynasty, the "Xiaoxiang Picture" by Dong Yuan of the Five Dynasties, the "Ruihe Picture" and "Bamboo" by Zhao Ji of Song Huizong. Bird Picture, Fan Kuan’s “Snow Scenery and Cold Forest Picture”, Su Shi’s “Wood and Stone Picture”, Wang Ximeng’s “A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains”, Yuan Dynasty’s Wang Mian’s “Momeni Picture”, Ming Dynasty Tang Bohu’s “Ancient Wood Secluded Bamboo” and other works, Together they have experienced the charm and aesthetic pursuit of traditional Chinese painting, as well as the artistic style of ancient literati and artists. The teachers and students present here are attentive, immersed in their appreciation of the traditional art of Chinese painting. After the lecture, some of the teachers' business remained unfinished, and they had face-to-face exchanges with Professor Xiao.


Xiao-Ping integrates calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, appreciation, historical theory, and collection. He has considerable attainments and achievements in many aspects. Painting and calligraphy are eclectic, borrowing from the past to open up the present, fresh and relaxed. His works are not only permeated with the lifestyle of the New Jinling School of Painting, but also with the elegance and charm of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing schools. He is good at understanding each other in the connection of calligraphy and painting and shaping a unique artistic style.
