Chinese Government Scholarship

In order to ensure the quality of the education of Chinese government scholarship undergraduate international students and improve the effectiveness of the scholarship, on the basis of pilot projects and in accordance with the relevant spirit of the "Administrative Regulations on the Acceptance of Foreign Students in Institutions of Higher Education", it has been decided to grant Chinese government scholarships to undergraduate students from September 1, 2010. Freshmen coming to China to carry out preparatory education before entering professional studies, the relevant requirements are hereby notified as follows:


1. Admissions management. Our department entrusts colleges and universities with rich experience in teaching and management of foreign students in China to undertake preparatory education tasks; entrusts the Secretariat of the China Scholarship Council to coordinate the enrollment and management of preparatory education and other specific matters, and organize the formulation of preparatory education compulsory courses and some optional courses The syllabus of the course, organize the compilation of teaching materials and teaching reference books, and gradually establish an evaluation system for the entire process of assessing students' academic performance.


2. Training objects. International students who are funded by the Chinese Government Scholarship and come to China for undergraduate education in Chinese are required to receive preparatory education, but those who meet one of the following two types of conditions can apply for exemption:


(1) Foreign students who have completed secondary education using Chinese as the language of study should attach a certificate issued by their graduate school that the language of the required courses in secondary education is Chinese when applying.

(2) Students who have obtained HSK scores that meet the learning standards for entering a professional school should attach a copy of the HSK certificate to the application. The HSK scores are valid for two years in principle.


3. The overall goal of training. To enable students to meet the basic standards for entering the professional stage of my country's colleges and universities in terms of Chinese language knowledge and ability, related professional knowledge, and cross-cultural communication skills. After completing the preparatory education, students should have the following knowledge and abilities:

(1) Possess a certain degree of Chinese communication skills and cross-cultural communication skills: a preliminary understanding of Chinese culture and society, the ability to use the learned Chinese language knowledge and skills to solve basic problems in daily life; master the basic Chinese vocabulary and basic grammatical points, and master A certain amount of professional vocabulary and common expressions of scientific and technological Chinese, the basic ability of listening, remembering, and asking in Chinese in the classroom teaching of professional courses; the preliminary ability to read Chinese professional materials with the help of reference books and the corresponding requirements for entering professional learning Written expression ability.

(2) Chinese language proficiency meets the following standards: science, engineering, agriculture, medicine (except for Chinese medicine), economics, law, management, education and other disciplines must not be lower than the old HSK level 3 or the new HSK level 4 with a score of 180; , History, Philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine and other disciplines must not be lower than the old HSK Level 6.

(3) Possess certain professional basic knowledge: students of science, engineering, agriculture, and medical preparatory courses should master the knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer, etc. required for professional learning; economics, law, management, education should master professional learning The required knowledge of mathematics and computer; preparatory students majoring in history, literature, philosophy and Chinese medicine should master the knowledge of ancient Chinese and computers required for professional study.

(4) Length of study. In principle, it is 1-2 academic years. Among them, for preparatory freshmen without a Chinese foundation, the preparatory education in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine (except for Chinese medicine), economics, law, management, education and other disciplines is basically one academic year (40 weeks); The preparatory education in history, philosophy and traditional Chinese medicine subjects generally lasts for 2 years (80 weeks). For preparatory freshmen who have a certain foundation in Chinese, the study time can be adjusted appropriately.

(5) Curriculum and teaching methods. The use of intensive education methods must adhere to the combination of language teaching and professional knowledge teaching, with language teaching as the mainstay, and professional knowledge teaching as a supplement. The preparatory education curriculum includes two parts: compulsory courses and elective courses. The ratio of the hours of the two can be determined according to the actual teaching situation of each preparatory education school.


Preparatory education courses must include language, culture, professional knowledge and language practice. Among them, the language category mainly includes two categories: ordinary Chinese and technical Chinese (or business Chinese), including comprehensive Chinese courses, listening courses, reading courses, oral courses, writing courses, scientific and technological Chinese reading courses, and scientific and technological Chinese listening and memorizing courses; cultural categories include Chinese culture, Chinese society, cross-cultural communication and other courses; professional knowledge includes courses such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, ancient Chinese, scientific and technological Chinese (or business Chinese) and basic computer knowledge; language practice refers to the school classroom Teaching activities such as language practice and social investigations other than teaching.


The first school year of preparatory education shall not be less than 1120 hours, and the second school year shall not be less than 960 hours. The proportion of hours allocated for various courses is roughly as follows:


Science, engineering, agriculture, medicine (except for Chinese medicine major)

Economics, law, management, education

History, literature, philosophy, Chinese medicine

All colleges and universities that undertake preparatory education should formulate teaching plans that are in line with the actual situation of students in their regions and schools, and adopt flexible and diverse training models.


6. Student management. The colleges and universities that hold preparatory education should strengthen the management of preparatory students in accordance with the requirements of the "Regulations on the Administration of the Acceptance of Foreign Students in Colleges and Universities". The performance of students during the preparatory course is an important basis for scholarship review and the issuance of certificate of completion.


7. Assessment method. The preparatory education will gradually implement the national unified assessment standards for the main courses. The assessment content of the preparatory education curriculum is divided into two parts, namely the Chinese language proficiency test and the comprehensive professional basic knowledge test.

At the end of the preparatory education stage, students who pass the assessment and pass the annual review of the Chinese Government Scholarship will receive a preparatory education completion certificate issued by their school, and the certificate will be transferred to the relevant colleges and universities for undergraduate study without taking the entrance exam.


8. Undergraduate majors and school selection. The Secretariat of the China Scholarship Council is responsible for regularly organizing preparatory education schools and related colleges and universities to guide students receiving preparatory education in choosing undergraduate majors and schools.


9. Students who have received preparatory education but fail to meet the assessment criteria will be disqualified from the Chinese government scholarship, but they can obtain a realistic study certificate issued by their school.
