Master Programs in English

1. Why RUC?

Renmin University of China (RUC) welcomes all international students to apply for our Master's Programs in English.

The Renmin University of China is a research-oriented comprehensive university focusing on humanities and social sciences. It is directly under the Ministry of Education of China.

In December 2017, the Ministry of Education released the fourth round assessment of academic disciplines.

RUC has 14 disciplines selected into the national list for world-class discipline construction, which leads RUC into No.2 nationwide. Among those disciplines,9 disciplines were ranked A+ Class Disciplines, are theoretical economics, applied economics, law, sociology, journalism and communication, statistics, business administration, public administration, and Marxist theory.

2. Introduction

3. Eligibility

Foreign citizens who do not hold Chinese passports must demonstrate to be good-natured individuals who have the necessary degrees and language capabilities. In principle, the applicant must not be more than 35 years old of age and must hold a degree that is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited Chinese university.

According to Section 5 of the Citizenship and Immigration Laws set forth by The Chinese People Republic of China, the individual in consideration cannot have Chinese citizenship if this person has a non-Chinese passport, has both parents who are Chinese foreign residents, or has one parent who is a Chinese foreign resident.

Applicants who were born in China or residents of Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan citizenship or those who possess foreign citizenship due to immigration must demonstrate to be in possession of their foreign citizenship for a minimum time of at least four years.

For applicants who fall under either of the two categories mentioned above, please provide documents and relevant material that support your foreign nationality claim.

 

3.1 Applicants who have either one or both parents possess Chinese citizenship but are long-term/permanent residents in another country were already in possession of foreign citizenship by the time of birth, and cannot possess Chinese citizenship. This type of applicant should provide the following documents:

(1) The past ID information of both parents during the applicant’s time of birth in photocopy form

(2) The current ID information of both parents in photocopy form

(3) Residency documents of one or both parents at the time of the applicant's birth

(4) The applicant’s birth certificate that proves non-Chinese nationality or acquisition of foreign

citizenship

 

3.2 Applicants who have either one or both parents possess Chinese citizenship but are long-term/permanent residents in China were already in possession of foreign citizenship by the time of birth. This type of applicant should provide the following documents:

(1) The past ID information of both parents during the applicant’s time of birth in photocopy form

(2) The current ID information of both parents in photocopy form

(3) Documents certifying the applicant forfeited Chinese citizenship for at least 4 (four) years

(4) Applicant’s birth certificate that proves non-Chinese nationality or acquisition of foreign citizenship

 

3.3 Applicants who were previously Chinese nationals but have acquired citizenship from another country need to provide:

(1) Documents certifying that the applicant has successfully acquired foreign citizenship

(2) Documents certifying the applicant forfeited Chinese citizenship for at least 4 (four) years

(3) Deactivation of Chinese citizenship that was previously in possession

 

3.4 Applicants who do not fall under any of the categories above do not have to provide documents certifying their nationality status

November 15, 2020 - April 30, 2021

 

4. Application procedure

4.1 Online Application

To begin your application to the Renmin University of China, please access the online application found on the website of the international student's office of Renmin University of China and register through the online registration system( http://international.ruc.edu.cn/application )

After successful registration, please fill in the personal information truthfully, upload the application materials and submit them. After submitting, the application form will be generated and printed.

The deadline for completing the Online registration is from November 15, 2020, to April 30, 2021 application will be accepted after the deadline.

 

Note:

① the electronic photos submitted for online registration must be:

·Taken recently to reflect your current appearance

·Two inches of size

·Taken in front of a plain white background

·Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera

·With a neutral facial expression and both eyes open

·Taken in clothing that you normally wear on a daily basis

·Uniforms should not be worn in your photo, except religious clothing that is worn daily.

·Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures the hair or hairline unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face.

② the registration information must be verified before submitting. Once submitted, it cannot be modified.

③ Be sure to save the username and password used in online registration (you will need it later).

 

4.2 Submission of paper application materials

Within two weeks after online registration, we request that you submit the following items as paper materials(hardcopy) to the International Student Office of the Renmin University of China by EMS, DHL or SF express for qualification examination.

 

(1) International Student Application Form of Renmin University of China

The application form will be generated automatically after the online registration is completed. Print the application form and sign at the bottom of the form. The application form should be printed clearly. It is forbidden to daub, sketch or damage the application form.

 

(2) Certificate of the highest education.

If the applicant is currently a student in school, please submit the original or notarized copy of the certificate of study and expected graduation issued by your current school. The original diploma and graduation certificate must be provided to the international student office for re-examination. Those who fail to pass the re-examination will not be admitted.

 

(3) Academic transcript (original or notarized)

Transcripts of all courses corresponding to the highest academic credentials submitted should be provided. Non-percentile transcripts must include score notes.

 

(4) Copies of the front cover, front page, and visa page of the passport

The validity of the passport must be later than March 31, 2022. If it does not meet the requirements, please renew the passport in advance. Please apply for registration and study in China with an ordinary passport. Other types of passports are not allowed. The copy of the visa page refers to the copy of the visa page held in China.

 

(5) Two letters of recommendation are required, from two professors or associate professors written in Chinese or English with the letterhead paper of the recommender

The recommendation letter must contain the signature of the recommender at the end of the recommendation letter. Applicants who have left the University for a long time and cannot get in touch with the university they were studying in may submit a letter of recommendation issued by the leader in charge of your work unit using the letterhead paper of the recommender.

 

(6) Personal statement

The personal statement provides an opportunity for you to present yourself. The content should include personal study and work experience, academic research achievements, research plans, career planning after graduation, written in English.

 

(7) Physical examination form for foreigners

The original document. The template of the FOREIGNER PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FORM can be downloaded from the website of the international student office. The applicant should go to the local regular hospital for a physical examination in strict accordance with the items specified in the FOREIGNER PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FORM. If the physical examination form is missing items, without a photo or with a cross seal, lacking the signature of the doctor and the seal of the hospital, it shall be considered invalid.

 

(8) Proof of language ability

The total score of IELTS must be 6.0 or above, and the TOEFL score must be 90 or above. No other English proficiency certificate is accepted. Applicants who have obtained an English teaching degree and native English-speaking applicants (including Chinese born in foreign countries) are not required to submit proof of language proficiency.

 

(9) Proof of economic capability (choose one of the following)

  • Bank deposit certificate of the applicant (fixed deposit with the deposit amount of more than RMB 30000 and the deposit time limit is after October 2021).
  • The guarantor’s on-the-job income certificate or bank deposit certificate (the on-the-job income certificate must be issued on the company”s letterhead paper or a fixed deposit with a deposit amount of more than 30000 Yuan and the deposit time limit is after October 2021).

 

(10) Letter of guarantee.

The Letter of guarantee template can be downloaded from the website of the international student office.

 

(11) Certificate of no criminal record (original or notarized copy).

Applicants who are currently in China or have studied and lived in China must provide a certificate of no criminal record issued by the relevant entry-exit departments. Other applicants must provide a certificate of no criminal record issued by the public security administration of your country.

 

(12) Copies of published academic papers, awards, or other research results may be attached if necessary.

The published academic papers shall be attached with search certificates, employment notice, or other relevant publication proof materials.

 

5. Matters needing attention:

5.1 All application materials shall be in Chinese / English, and notarized Chinese / English translation shall be provided for texts other than Chinese / English. Documents in other languages shall not be accepted. If the published academic paper is too long to provide translation, Chinese / English search certificate, employment notice, or other relevant publication proof materials shall be provided, and the original paper shall be attached;

5.2 If the submitted materials are notarized copies, they shall be the original notarized copies, other copies shall not be accepted;

5.3 All application materials will not be returned once submitted;

5.4 The school reserves the right to require the applicant to submit relevant supporting materials.

6. Qualification Review

All application materials should be sent to International Students Office for review. You can mail all the application materials to the International Students Offices.

7. Interview

After reviewing the process, the qualified application documents will be forwarded to the related school. The school will organize the exams and notify the applicants of the location and time. Applicants will attend a comprehensive interview in English organized by relevant schools. Please contact each school for further information.

8. Admission

The program adviser will evaluate the applicant’s academic potential based on the application documents and interview performance. The Graduate Admission Committee of the University will make the final decision of admission.

The International Students Office will issue the admission letter, instructions for the registration, as well as necessary materials for visa application and room reservation to the accepted applicants.

 

9. Enrollment

Upon acceptance, all candidates should register and pay the tuition by the due date when registering in China.

The tuition standards for master’s programs in English are available on the pages or websites of each program.

 

10. Duration of Program

All the programs will take two years. Certificates of degree and diploma will be awarded to those who have completed required course work and thesis within the required time.
