Master's and doctoral programs

The Renmin University of China is a comprehensive research-oriented national key university focusing on humanities and social sciences. In the list of world-class universities and first-class discipline construction universities and disciplines ("double first-class") announced by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission in 2017, Renmin University of China was selected into the list of A-class first-class university construction universities. Philosophy, Theoretical economics, applied economics, law, political science, sociology, Marxist theory, journalism and communication, Chinese history, statistics, business management, agricultural and forestry economic management, public management, library information, and archives management, a total of 14 levels The discipline was selected into the list of first-class discipline construction.

In 2021, international students plan to recruit Chinese-taught masters and doctoral majors, including 68 doctoral majors and 99 master's majors (see the professional catalog for details).

 

(1) Application conditions

Non-Chinese citizens who hold ordinary foreign passports are physically and mentally healthy and have corresponding degrees and language skills.

1. Application for master's degree: In principle, the age should not exceed 35 years old, and it must have a degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a Chinese university.

2. Application for Ph.D. degree: In principle, the age should be no more than 45 years old and must have a degree equivalent to a master's degree in a Chinese university. According to Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, if both or one of the parents are Chinese citizens and settled in a foreign country if the person has foreign nationality at birth, he does not have Chinese nationality. That is if both or one of the parents are Chinese citizens and settled in China, and the person has a foreign nationality at birth, he should choose his own nationality after becoming an adult and renounce the nationality of another country. Applicants who were originally residents of the mainland (Mainland), Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan of the motherland, and later immigrated abroad and obtained foreign nationality, should hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive). According to the relevant regulations of Jiaowaihan [2020] No. 12 of the Ministry of Education of China, our school requires the above-mentioned applicants to attach relevant supporting documents when uploading electronic application materials and submitting paper application materials.

 

(2) Registration time

November 15, 2020-April 30, 2021

 

(3) Enrollment majors, length of study, and tuition standards

The basic study period for master students is 2-3 years. The basic length of study for doctoral students is 4 years. For details of enrollment majors, length of study, and tuition standards, please refer to the catalog of majors and doctoral candidates enrolled on the official website of the International Students Office (http://iso.ruc.edu.cn).

 

(4) Registration procedure

1. Online application applicants must log in to the official website of the International Students Office of the Renmin University of China within the specified application time and register through the online application system. After successful registration, fill in personal information truthfully, upload and submit the application materials, and then generate and print the application form after submission. The online registration period is from November 15, 2020, to April 30, 2021. Late registration applications will not be accepted.

Note:

① The electronic photo submitted for online registration must be a recent two-inch clear ID photo with a white background without a hat, face, ears, and dark blouse (except for special religious beliefs). The head occupies 2/3 of the size of the photo, JPG, Or JPEG format.

② The registration information must be checked and submitted before confirmation. Once submitted, it cannot be modified.

③ Be sure to keep the user name and password used for online registration.

 

2. Submit the paper application materials within two weeks after completing the online registration, students must mail the following paper materials via EMS, DHL, or SF Express to the International Students Office of Renmin University of China for qualification review.

 

① "Application Form for International Students from Renmin University of China to Study in China". After the online registration is completed, an application form will be automatically generated. Print out the application form and sign at the bottom of the form. The application form should be printed clearly, smearing, drawing, or damage is prohibited.

 

② Proof of the highest degree of education. If the applicant is a student in school, he must submit the original or notarized copy of the certificate of enrollment and expected graduation issued by the school he is attending. Upon admission, the original academic certificate and graduation certificate must be provided to the International Students Office for review. Those who fail the review will not be able to attend school. ③ Academic transcript (original or notarized copy). It should be the transcript of all courses in the learning stage corresponding to the submitted highest degree certificate. The non-percentage transcript must include a transcript page.

 

④ Copy of passport cover, personal information page and visa page. The valid date of the passport must be later than March 31, 2022. If you do not meet the requirements, please change your passport in advance. Please apply for registration and study in China with an ordinary passport. Other types of passports are prohibited. The visa page refers to the visa page you held when you came to China. ⑤ Recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English. The recommender must sign at the end of the letter of recommendation.

 

⑥ Personal statement. The personal statement of those who intend to study for a master's degree should be no less than 1,000 words, and the personal statement of those who intend to study for a doctoral degree should be no less than 1,500 words. The content should include personal study and work experience, academic research results, research plans, career planning after graduation, etc., written in Chinese.

 

⑦ The original copy of "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners". The "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" template can be downloaded from the website of the International Students Office. Applicants should strictly follow the required items in the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" and go to the local regular hospital for physical examination. The "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" that is missing, without a photo of yourself, or without a seal, a physician's signature, and a hospital seal, is invalid.

 

⑧ HSK and HSKK score report. The HSK score should reach 200 points for level 5 or 180 points for level 6, and the scores in each subject should not be less than 60 points; the HSKK scores should reach 60 points for advanced. Applicants for a master's degree program who have obtained a bachelor's degree in Chinese taught in China and applicants for a doctoral degree program who have obtained a master's degree in Chinese taught in China can apply for exemption from submitting HSK and HSKK score reports. The original transcripts of HSK and HSKK must be sent to our school by the Hankao International Path. Individual submissions are not accepted. HSK and HSKK scores are valid for 2 years.

 

⑨ Guarantee letter and proof of the guarantor’s financial ability. The guarantee form template can be downloaded from the website of the International Students Office. The guarantor’s financial ability certificate can be an employment income certificate, bank deposit certificate, or another financial ability certificate, among which the bank deposit certificate must be a fixed deposit with a deposit amount of 30,000 yuan or more and the deposit time limit after October 2021.

 

⑩ No criminal record certificate (original or notarized copy).

a) Applicants currently in China must provide a certificate of non-criminal record issued by relevant immigration authorities;

b) Applicants who have studied and lived in China but are not currently in China must provide a certificate of non-criminal record issued by the public safety management department of their country, and submit the certificate of non-criminal record during their stay in China when they enter the journal;

c) Applicants who have never studied and lived in China must provide a certificate of no criminal record issued by the public security administration of their country.

 

⑪ Nationality certification materials.

a) Applicants whose parents are both Chinese citizens residing in a foreign country and have foreign nationality at birth do not have Chinese nationality. Applicants of this type must submit:

Copies of valid IDs of both parents at the time of the applicant's birth

Both parents of the applicant now hold copies of valid IDs;

At the time of the applicant’s birth, the relevant documents (such as foreign visas and entry-exit stamps, permanent residence in other countries, etc.) that both or one of the parents of Chinese citizens have settled in a foreign country;

The applicant has obtained a copy of the certificate of foreign nationality at birth (original copy for reference).

 

b) Applicants whose parents or one of them are Chinese citizens residing in China and have foreign nationality at birth must submit:

A copy of the valid IDs of both parents at the time of birth;

Both parents of the applicant now hold copies of valid IDs;

Certificate of the applicant's withdrawal of Chinese nationality;

The applicant has obtained a copy of the certificate of foreign nationality at birth (original copy for reference).

 

c) Applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and later became foreign nationals must submit:

Certificate of citizenship of another country;

Certificate of the resignation of Chinese nationality (resignation must be at least 4 years);

Cancellation of the original Chinese household registration certificate (original or notarized copy).

 

d) Applicants who do not fall into the above three situations do not need to submit nationality certification materials.

 

⑫ If necessary, copies of published academic papers, awards, or other research results can be attached. Publicly published academic papers should be attached with search certificates, acceptance notices, or other relevant publication certification materials.

 

Precautions:

All application materials must be in Chinese/English, and notarized Chinese/English translations must be provided for documents other than Chinese/English. Documents in other languages are not accepted;

If the published academic papers are too long to provide translations, they must provide Chinese/English search certificates, acceptance notices or other relevant publication certification materials, together with the original papers;

The submitted materials are notarized copies, which must be original notarized copies, and copies of them are not accepted;

All application materials will not be returned once submitted;

The school reserves the right to require applicants to submit relevant certification materials.

 

3. Payment of registration fee The registration fee is RMB 800, which must be paid through online payment after the online registration is confirmed according to the prompts of the registration system. The registration fee is non-refundable.

 

(5) Assessment and admission procedures

Applicants can choose two voluntary majors. After submitting the materials, the International Students Office will review the application materials. After the review is passed, the International Students Office will send the application materials to the college where the first choice is located. The college will conduct a second review of the application materials. After passing the review, the college will notify the applicant to participate in an interview or a written test. If the application materials have not passed the review of the college where the first choice is located, or the applicant fails the assessment of the college where the first choice is located, the application materials will be automatically transferred to the college where the second choice is located and go through the same procedure. If the application materials do not pass the review of the college where the second choice is located, or the applicant fails the assessment of the college where the second choice is located, the application procedure will automatically terminate, the applicant cannot change the application choice again, and the applicant will not be admitted. After each college assesses the applicants, they will submit their suggestions for admission based on the candidates' examination or interview situation and scientific research ability, together with the "Graduate Re-examination Record" and all the candidates' registration materials, and submit them to the Admissions Office of the Graduate School. After the school’s admissions leading group has reviewed and determined the final list of admissions, the International Students Office will announce the admission results and issue an admission notice. It is planned to issue the admission notice in July 2021.

 

(6) Scholarship application

The National Bilateral Program of Chinese Government Scholarship (Type A) is handled by the China Scholarship Council, embassies (consulates), and relevant institutions, submits applicant information, consults the school for admission, and provides feedback on admission information. University Autonomous Enrollment Program (Type B) Applicants apply to the school for scholarships, and the application time is at the same time as the postgraduate application. After the school receives the application materials for review, it will report to the Scholarship Council of the proposed admission opinions. 2. Confucius Institute Scholarship Program Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban organizes registration and examinations. Applicants approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban will be reviewed and admitted by business schools. The final admission result is subject to the national Han office cloth. 3. Applicants for Renmin University of China's International Student Excellence Award shall apply to the school for the award, and the application time will be carried out at the same time as the postgraduate application. After the school receives the application materials, they will be assessed by the awards appraisal method, and the International Students Office will announce the list of winners.

 

4. Applicants for the Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship for Foreign Students Freshmen and Beijing “Belt and Road” Scholarship should apply to the school for the scholarship, and the application time will be carried out at the same time as the postgraduate application. After the school receives the application materials for review, it will be evaluated according to the scholarship evaluation method and announced by the International Students Office

 

List of winners. The Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship for Foreign Students Freshmen and the Beijing “Belt and Road” Scholarship are issued in the form of tuition reduction and exemption. They are divided into full scholarships and half scholarships.
