Shanghai Government Scholarship(SGS)

 

Introduction

In order to further the development of international student education and attract more outstanding international students to study in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission established the Shanghai Government Scholarships (SGS) for International Students in 2005. It offers funds to prospective international students to pursue a bachelor’s degree or higher at institutions of higher education in Shanghai.

For the moment, SGS is only available to Intercultural Communication Studies(MA) and some doctorate programs at STA.  

 

Eligibility

  • Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health;
  • Applicants should not be awardees of other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.
  • Age below 35.

 

Coverage and Standards

SGS Class A Scholarship covers the following:

  • Tuition Fees.

  • A double room in the school dormitory was shared with another student arranged by the school.

  • A monthly stipend of RMB3000.

  • Basic insurance

SGS Class B Scholarship covers the following:

  • Tuition Fees.

  • A double room in the school dormitory was shared with another student was arranged by the school.

  • Basic insurance

 

Application Submission Procedure

The candidates should submit their application online by themselves as soon as they receive the formal Admission Letter from STA. (http://www.study-shanghai.org/Scholarship_en.asp)

The online submission deadline: May 1- 30

 

Materials required:

  • Annual Scholarship Review Form for Foreign Students (please download it at http://liuxuesheng.sta.edu.cn/xzzq.asp)

  • Notarized certification of the highest educational level achieved. If the applicant is a student, he or she should provide proof of enrollment;

  • The academic record of the highest educational level. Non-Chinese or non-English ones should be attached with the notarized version in Chinese or English;

  • A study and /or research proposal in China (no less than 1000 words in Chinese or in English)

  • Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors of the colleges or universities the applicants graduated from;
