Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (formerly Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade) was established in 1960, is the former Ministry of Foreign Trade (economic) cooperation universities directly under the Ministry, in 1982, became a bachelor's degree-granting unit, began training in 1984, graduate students, 1986 master's degree to become The unit was placed under the management of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 1994. In 2006, it passed the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education with an "excellent" level. In 2009, it was selected as one of the world's first and only WTO chair colleges in China. In 2013, it was renamed a university. In 2019, it obtained the qualification of the WTO Asia-Pacific Training Center and became the only regional training partner established in mainland China among the WTO's seven global training partners. In the ranking of universities of finance and economics in 2020, the school ranks 10th in the national finance and economics universities.

 

The school adheres to the school motto of "integrity, tolerance, erudition, and pragmatism", and adheres to the school-running philosophy of "student-oriented and academic-oriented". There are three campuses in Songjiang, Gubei, and Qibao, covering an area of 1,003 acres, a building area of 323,600 square meters, and a paper collection of 1.53 million books.

The school has the School of International Economics and Trade, the School of International Business and Foreign Languages, the School of Financial Management, the School of Law, the School of Business Administration, the School of Accounting, the School of Exhibition and Tourism, the School of Statistics and Information, the School of Trade Negotiations, the School of International Cultural Exchange, the School of Continuing Education, and the School of Marx Schools (departments) such as the School of Socialism and the Department of Physical Education. The school and the People's Government of Songjiang District in Shanghai jointly organized a nine-year compulsory education school-Songjiang Experimental School affiliated with the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.

 

The school has 6 disciplines including economics, management, literature, law, science, and engineering, and 7 first-level disciplines including applied economics, business administration, law, foreign languages and literature, theoretical economics, statistics, and Marxist theory.
