Established in 1956, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the first Chinese higher education institutions established by the country after the birth of New China. It is a Chinese medicine institution jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the local government in Shanghai, and it is also a key point in Shanghai. Constructed high-level university. The school is located in the core area of Zhangjiang Science City. It takes the initiative to connect with the national strategy and the construction of a scientific and technological innovation center with global influence as its mission. It uses existing disciplines and comprehensive advantages to bravely deepen the reform of Chinese medicine higher education and promote Chinese medicine. The independent innovation of medicine and the important task of leading the development of Chinese medicine.

 

The school adheres to the school motto of "diligence, benevolence, truth-seeking, and innovation", and focuses on inheritance and innovation. The school is the National Ministry of Education's "Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Zone" and "Characteristic Specialty" construction university. It has 3 first-level disciplines of Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine, and 1 professional degree category (field) of Chinese medicine. Points, 5 first-level disciplines of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, History of Science and Technology, and Medical Technology, and 5 professional degree categories (fields) of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medicine, Nursing, Translation, and Public Health, 3 master degree authorization points Post-doctoral mobile station, doctoral degree-granting majors cover all disciplines of Chinese medicine.

 

The school's medical scale and medical service capabilities continue to improve. There are 8 affiliated hospitals, which basically cover all three-level Chinese medicine and integrated Chinese and Western medicine hospitals in Shanghai. The affiliated hospital has a total construction area of approximately 670,000 square meters, with a total of approximately 6,300 beds, and serves approximately 17 million patients from all over the world each year. The school actively responds to the national "One Belt One Road" initiative by setting up overseas Chinese medicine centers to continuously promote the internationalization of Chinese medicine. At present, the school has established scientific research, teaching, medical, and other cooperative relations with nearly 50 overseas universities, medical research institutions, and international organizations in 20 countries and regions.

 

1. Admissions Major

The foreign doctoral students of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine are divided into full-time foreign doctoral students (hereinafter referred to as "full-time doctoral students") and part-time foreign doctoral students (hereinafter referred to as "part-time doctoral students"). Generally speaking, Chinese is used for training, and some courses and tutors can be taught in English.

 

For enrollment majors, please refer to the "List of Admissions Supervisors for Foreign Doctoral Candidates of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine" (Annex 1); for the professional overview, please refer to the "General Situation of Postgraduate Admissions of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine" (Annex 2). The school requires applicants to contact the relevant professional tutors of our school in advance and submit the "Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Tutors Accepting Foreign Doctoral Research Business Form" (Annex 3) issued by the tutors along with the application materials. Applicants who have no clear intention of tutors at the time of application can be recommended by the school.

 

2. School system

The length of schooling is three years and can be extended to five years at most.

 

3. Eligibility for application

Applicants should be of foreign nationality and in good health. Residents of Mainland China (Mainland), Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan who apply for admission as international students after immigrating to a foreign country must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive) and the recent 4 years (as of 2021 years 4 months 30 days ago) within the actual living abroad 2 records over the years (one year actually resided abroad 9 months of the year can be calculated to inbound and outbound signature Prevail).

Must have a master's degree in medicine or science (pharmacy);

Under the age of 45 (recommended by our school's long-term cooperation unit, those with strong academic ability can appropriately relax the age limit);

The applicant's Chinese proficiency must reach the new HSK 6 level of 180 points or more (not required for those who complete secondary and/or higher education through Chinese as a medium), English-taught and Japanese-taught majors do not require applicants' Chinese proficiency; the native language is not English Applicants for English-taught courses from the country have a TOEFL score of 90 or more or an IELTS score of 6.5.

Applicants need for non-traditional Chinese background have medical or related science undergraduate educational background and with a certain degree of self-learning ability and scientific research ability of medical expertise.

 

4. Application materials

"Application Form for Foreign Doctoral Candidates of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine" (Annex 4);

"Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine tutors accept foreign Ph.D. research business list" (Annex 3);

A scanned copy of the individual's ordinary passport (the passport must be valid within 6 months from the date of submission of the application);

1-inch digital color photo (25mm×35mm, white or blue background) of the front, half-length, and full-length headless within 6 months;

Scanned copy of the highest degree and/or degree certificate: if the applicant is a graduate, a scanned copy of the graduation certificate and/or degree certificate must be submitted; if the applicant is a student, a scanned copy of the school certificate issued by the school must be submitted. The applicant is a certificate of academic qualification obtained abroad. If it is really necessary, a scanned copy of the notarized academic certificate must be submitted according to the requirements of the school; if the academic certificate provided by the applicant is in a text other than Chinese or English, the notarized Chinese or English must be submitted A scanned copy of the translation. After admission, all students must provide original academic certificates for verification.

Scanned copy of the transcript for master's (or degree course above master's degree): a scanned copy of the transcript signed by the school where you graduated must be submitted; the applicant is a certificate of academic qualification obtained abroad, if necessary, it must be submitted according to the requirements of the school A scanned copy of the notarized copy; if the transcript provided by the applicant is in a text other than Chinese or English, a scanned copy of the notarized Chinese or English translation must be submitted. After admission, all students must provide original transcripts for verification.

A scanned copy of language (Chinese or English) proficiency test scores: Applicants for Chinese-taught majors should provide a copy of the HSK certificate (not required for those who have completed secondary and/or higher education in Chinese); applicants for English-taught majors should provide TOEFL or IELTS Certificate of transcript (not required for native English speakers).

To apply for full-time doctoral students, scan copies of the Recommendation Letters (see "Application Form for Foreign Doctoral Candidates of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine") of two associate professors or above experts in related majors must be provided (Attachment 4), and for part-time doctoral students "Recommendations" from three associate professors or above experts (see "Application Form for Foreign Doctoral Candidates of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine") (Annex 4). "Recommendation" is written in Chinese or English.

Self-report of scientific research ability;

Full text of master's degree thesis or full text of published thesis;

Scanned copy of bank remittance voucher for registration fee;

Fill in the information of the financial guarantor truthfully, and the school will notify the applicant to submit the financial guarantee certificate and/or the income certificate of the financial guarantor according to the needs.

Incomplete application materials above will not be accepted, and the application materials sent by e-mail will be invalid. In addition, the school may require applicants to submit supplementary materials according to the situation. All the above application materials must be filled in and uploaded accurately online according to the requirements of the online application. The website for online application is http://apply.shutcm.edu.cn/. Materials that are not specifically required can be uploaded in the "Additional Materials" column.

After the applicants are admitted, they must bring the original documents for verification when they come to the school to register. If it is found to be inconsistent with the content of the application materials, the school has the right to cancel the applicant's admission qualification.

Applicants for the Chinese Government Scholarship and Shanghai Government Scholarship must submit the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Annex 12). After the applicants are admitted, they must bring the original health certificate (physical examination certificate) for verification when registering at the school; those with chronic diseases must be notified in advance. If there are chronic diseases that are uncertain whether they can be admitted, please confirm with the school before applying.

The application fee will not be refunded due to incomplete application materials, non-admission after the materials are accepted, or the student's voluntarily abandoning the entrance examination or registration.

 

5. Application time

December 15, 2020-March 15, 2021 (working day).

 

6. Admission qualification review and interview

The school will review the applicant’s admission qualifications, and those who pass the review can participate in an interview organized by the school. In addition to the necessary application materials for admission qualification review, applicants must complete a summary article by the "Announcement of 2021 Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Foreign Postgraduate Application Phase Review Ability Test" (Annex 5). The tutor accepts the foreign master’s research business direction form" (Annex 3) "Whether to pass the review test" column to confirm "pass".

The postgraduate admission interview adopts on-site interviews, telephone calls, online videos, etc. (Applicants in Asian regions are required to participate in on-site interviews. Applicants from Asian regions who apply for online interviews will not be given priority to recommend national or municipal scholarships for independent admissions. ; Those who are not in Asia or who cannot participate in the on-site interview due to their employment or other special circumstances need to provide the original documents of relevant certifications, and they can use the form of telephone or online video only after the review is passed). Applicants need to fill in the "Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Foreign Doctoral Candidate Interview Form" (see "Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Foreign Doctoral Candidate Registration Form"). Applicants should fill in the correct email address when submitting the application materials, and the "Interview Notice" will be issued before the test.

 

7. Admission

After a comprehensive review of candidates’ application materials, test results, and tutor’s opinions, the school will select the best candidates for admission. After admission, applications for changing tutors are generally not accepted. The Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202 Form) will be mailed to the candidates themselves by a letter from the school in mid-June 2021.

 

8. Start time

Full-time doctoral students: September 2021, the specific time is subject to the "Admission Notice" and "Registration Notes".

Part-time doctoral students: Please refer to the "Admission Notice" and "Registration Notes" for the specific time.

 

9. Registration

Admitted applicants should take ordinary passports, "Admission Notice", and "Visa Application Form for Studying in China" (JW202 Form or JW201 Form) to the Chinese Embassy (Consulate) to apply for an Entry Study (X1) Visa (Chinese University Foreign students with non-study visas are not accepted), and with the above materials, register at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the time specified in the "Admission Notice". Students who submit the certificate of enrollment at the time of application must submit the original or notarized copy of the academic certificate as required when enrolling. Those who fail to provide the certificate will be disqualified from admission. If foreign students fail to register as required and do not ask for leave in advance, they will be disqualified from enrollment. When a student violates Chinese government laws and regulations or school rules and regulations, or because his academic performance does not meet the requirements set by the school, he will be dealt with by the "Regulations on the Management of International Students of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine".

 

10. Expenses

Tuition

Chinese-taught courses: RMB 50,000/year for full-time doctoral students and RMB 60,000/year for part-time doctoral students.

English-taught: Full-time doctoral students RMB 60,000/year, part-time doctoral students RMB 60,000/year.

Tuition fees include teaching, internship, professor guidance, thesis review, and other training expenses, excluding teaching materials, books, accommodation, medical expenses, and other expenses. The postgraduates jointly cultivated by China and foreign countries are subject to the content of the agreement between the two parties. According to the "Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Interim Regulations on the Use of Credit Banks for International Students" (Annex 6), the projects (courses) that can be recognized in the "Credit Banks" for international students studying for doctoral degree programs before and after admission are accumulated within the prescribed academic system. It is only used as a basis for tuition reduction or exemption for self-financed students.

Accommodation fee

The dormitory arrangement at the time of enrollment is based on the overall dormitory arrangement of the school, and students will be notified in mid-July. If there is any change in the standard of accommodation fee, it will be implemented according to the standard of 2021.

After students apply for off-campus accommodation and the school agrees, students can live off-campus by themselves at their own expense.

11. Scholarships and bursaries

Chinese Government Scholarship

The cost reduction and exemption, medical insurance, on-campus housing, and living expenses for Chinese government scholarships shall be implemented by the "Notice of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education on Improving the Chinese Government Scholarship Funding System and Raising Funding Standards" and other relevant documents. If applying to our school, applicants can contact our school’s International Education College Admissions Office to obtain our school’s pre-admission notice (see "14 Contact Information" for contact information). In principle, the tutors of the admitted Chinese government scholarship students are arranged by the school. If the students have their own wishes to choose a tutor, they need to pay the registration fee, complete the online application, pass the admission qualification review and interview.

Shanghai Government Scholarship for Foreign Students

Established by the Shanghai Municipal Government. The cost of the Shanghai Government Scholarship for Foreign Students shall be issued by the "Notice on Further Improving the Shanghai Government Scholarship Funding System for Foreign Students and Raising the Funding Standards" and other relevant documents. In addition to paying the registration fee, completing the online application, passing the admission qualification review and interview, students applying for the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship also need to complete the application on the "Study in Shanghai" website (the registration fee only needs to be paid once and does not need to be repeated).

13. Academic degree

Within the prescribed academic system, the student completes the course study by the provisions of the training plan, with qualified grades, completes the graduation (degree) thesis, and passes the thesis defense; officially publishes 2 academic papers within the prescribed academic system (the student himself is the first author, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine includes papers whose affiliated unit is the first unit), of which at least one paper is published in a regular academic journal, and a graduation certificate is issued. It complies with the provisions of the Degree Regulations of the People’s Republic of China, and can be awarded a doctorate after the school’s degree evaluation committee has reviewed and approved it.
