"New Sinology Project" PhD Scholarship

According to the 2021-2022 doctoral enrollment information of the "New Sinology Program" announced by the Sino-foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education, combined with the actual situation of our school, the application guidelines for this scholarship program are formulated.

 

1. Introduction to Scholarship

The "New Sinology Program" was established by the Sino-foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education. It mainly supports the training of doctoral students in professional fields such as Sinology and Chinese Studies, special studies in China, establishment of teaching chairs and other projects, cooperation in international academic seminars, and promotion of related fields Translation and publication of works promote exchanges and cooperation among scholars. Sun Yat-sen University is one of the 16 key universities in China designated by the Sino-foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center to participate in the program.

The "New Sinology Program" has four sub-projects, among which the doctoral training program supports foreign students to study and study at the doctoral level in China, and cultivate young sinologists who have an international academic vision, are familiar with international academic rules, and can participate in international academic exchanges and research. The PhD program in China supports excellent foreign master’s students to study for a doctor’s degree in a Chinese university. The basic length of study is 4 years, the study method is full-time, and the language of instruction is Chinese; the Sino-foreign cooperative doctoral program is used to fund outstanding doctorates registered in foreign universities Students come to China for study, joint research and writing doctoral dissertations during their studies. The project time is from one semester to two academic years. See the attachment for the list of admissions tutors.

 

2. Application conditions

(1) Non-Chinese nationality and in good health.

(2) Requirements for Chinese proficiency:

1) Applicants for the Ph.D. program in China must have a score of 180 in level 5 or above in the HSK Test. Those with excellent Chinese proficiency under the same conditions are preferred.

2) Applicants for the Chinese-foreign joint Ph.D. program must have a score of 180 or above in Level 3 of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), and those with excellent Chinese proficiency under the same conditions are preferred.

(3) Applicants for PhD programs in China have obtained a master's degree, or are graduates of a master's degree.

(4) Applicants for the Sino-foreign cooperative training doctoral program are doctoral students in officially registered foreign regular universities.

(5) Those who are currently enjoying Chinese government scholarships are not allowed to apply for this program at the same time.

 

3. Funding content

(1) Tuition fees.

(2) Living allowance and research allowance.

(3) One international round-trip travel expense per year (economy class, reimbursed according to actual expenses).

(4) Medical and accident insurance premiums during the stay in China.

(5) Group activities and cultural experience.

(6) International round-trip travel expenses (economy class) for foreign tutors of the Chinese-foreign joint doctoral program to China.

 

4. The application process

(1) Online scholarship application. Log in to http://ccsp.chinese.cn, register a personal account, fill in the application information online, upload relevant supporting materials, and submit the project application form.

(2) Online application for admission to Sun Yat-sen University. Applicants log on to the "Online Application" on the website of the Office of Foreign Students of Sun Yat-sen University to register, fill in the application form accurately and completely as required, and upload the application materials (see Article 5 for details) The application materials must be in Chinese or English. For documents in other languages, the original documents and notarized Chinese or English translations must be attached.

(3) Scholarship review. Our school conducts admission qualification review on applicants. Those who pass our school’s review will be reviewed and interviewed by the “New Sinology Program” expert committee of the Ministry of Education’s Sino-foreign Language Exchange Cooperation Center. The final list of winners will be determined by the Ministry of Education’s Sino-Foreign Language Exchange Cooperation Center. The admission notice of the award-winning students will be sent by our school.

Applicants for PhD programs in China must submit a master’s degree certificate and a bachelor’s degree certificate. If the applicant is a recent graduate, he must submit the expected graduation certificate issued by the current school, and submit a master’s degree certificate to our school when registering, otherwise Will be disqualified for admission. Applicants for the Sino-foreign joint doctoral training program should provide proof of PhD students.

Official transcript issued by the highest degree school

The notarized complete transcripts of the undergraduate and master’s stages of the university must be submitted. Fresh graduates can submit the current transcripts first. All course transcripts must be submitted before admission.

Letter of recommendation

Two letters of recommendation from experts in the field, written in Chinese or English (including the referrer’s autograph and the referrer’s valid contact information)

Language Proficiency Certificate

For the transcript of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), please refer to the "Application Requirements" for details.

Research results

Master's thesis abstract and other research results. Applicants for the Sino-foreign joint doctoral program must also submit an abstract of the doctoral dissertation.

Applicants for PhD programs in China must submit a research plan during the doctoral period, and applicants for the Sino-foreign cooperative training doctoral program must submit a research plan during their stay in China.

Medical report

Please refer to Attachment 2 for details of the physical examination items, which must be filled out in Chinese or English and affixed with the official seal of the hospital. The validity period of the physical examination is 3 months.

7. Other instructions

(1) The registration and registration procedures must be carried out with a study visa at the time specified by the school. Those who fail to register on time or fail the re-examination of admission qualifications will be disqualified for the scholarship.

(2) Participate in the annual review of scholarships as required. Those who fail the assessment will be suspended or disqualified from the scholarship.
