School Profile


The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It was formerly known as Chengdu Telecommunication Engineering College. It was deployed by Premier Zhou Enlai in 1956. It was composed of Jiaotong University (now Shanghai JiaoTong University, Xi’an Jiaotong University), Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University), The telecommunications engineering-related majors of South China Institute of Technology (now South China University of Technology) were merged and created.


The school was listed as a national key institution of higher learning by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1960. In 1961, it was designated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as one of the seven national defense industry colleges. In 1988, it was renamed the University of Electronic Science and Technology. In 1997, it was designated as the first batch of "Project 211" in the country. In 2000, it was transferred from the former head of the Ministry of Information Industry to the head of the Ministry of Education. In 2001, it entered the ranks of the national "985 Project" key construction universities, and in 2017 it entered the ranks of the national construction "world-class universities" Class A universities. In 2019, the Ministry of Education and Sichuan Province signed a contract to jointly promote the construction of a world-class university in our school. After more than 60 years of construction, the school has formed a multi-level and multi-type talent training pattern from undergraduates to masters and doctoral students. It has become a complete coverage of the entire electronic information discipline, with electronic information science and technology as the core, and engineering as the core. The multidisciplinary research university with the main, science and engineering penetration, and the coordinated development of science, engineering, management, literature, and medicine has grown into the source of high-tech in the domestic electronic information field and a base for innovative talents.


The school has three campuses, Qingshuihe, Shahe, and Jiulidi. The school has a total construction area of more than 1.23 million square meters. It has a modern digital library with rich collections and several modern sports venues with complete facilities. The campus is surrounded by verdant trees, rippling lakes, and elegant buildings. It is a good place to cultivate sentiment, study, and study.

The school has 23 colleges (departments) and 65 undergraduate majors, of which 13 are national-level specialty majors, and 24 majors are selected as national-level first-class undergraduate majors. There are currently more than 38,000 undergraduate, master, and doctoral students. The employment rate of students has remained above 96%, and the rate of undergraduates studying abroad at home and has exceeded 2/3, of which the rate of studying abroad (overseas) has exceeded 1/5. The number of postgraduates published in top international academic journals has increased significantly, the number of scientific and technological achievement awards at the provincial and ministerial level and above has been increasing, and more than half of the postgraduates have gone to work in key national institutions. The school attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovative and practical ability and supports and encourages students to actively participate in scientific and technological innovation, cultural art, and social practice activities. The school has established several national quality courses and quality textbooks, such as the National Quality Online Open Courses, and has a national university student cultural quality education base, as well as a national experimental teaching demonstration center, a virtual simulation experiment teaching demonstration center, an engineering practice education center, and a national engineering degree. More than 20 national education and teaching practice bases and demonstration centers, including the joint graduate training demonstration base, have won several national teaching achievement awards.


The school vigorously implements the discipline improvement strategy, solidly promotes the deep integration of science and engineering, and the discipline influence continues to increase. The school currently has two national first-level key disciplines (the six second-level disciplines included are all national key disciplines) and two national key (cultivation) disciplines. There are 16 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 28 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 1 second-level discipline master degree authorization point, 4 doctoral professional degree authorization points, and 12 master professional degree authorization points. There are 15 post-doctoral mobile stations. In the fourth round of national first-level subject evaluation, 4 disciplines of the school were rated A, of which the two disciplines of electronic science and technology and information and communication engineering are A+, and the number of A+ disciplines is tied for the first place in western universities.

The school has 4 national-level key laboratories, 1 national engineering technology research center, 2 national and local joint engineering laboratories (research centers), 2 national engineering laboratories, and 1 first batch of national specialized creative space, 47 provincial and ministerial scientific research institutions, 5 National Natural Science Foundation of China innovation groups, 6 innovation teams of the Ministry of Education and 3 national defense science and technology innovation teams. Since the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the school's scientific and technological achievements have won 32 national awards (including 1 first prize) and 328 ministerial and provincial awards. The school gives full play to the advantages of disciplines, talents, and scientific research, and actively participates in the construction of the “Belt and Road” and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. It has established research institutions in the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle to actively serve the industries in Sichuan Province. The school vigorously implements the strategy of prioritizing the development of talents. There are more than 3,800 faculty members, including more than 2,500 teachers and more than 640 professors. Up to now, our school has more than 300 high-level talents including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, and European Academy of Sciences.


The school vigorously implements an international development strategy and has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 200 universities, scientific research institutions, and enterprises in more than 70 countries and regions in the world. The same batch of well-known foreign universities has signed student exchange and joint training agreements. Overseas teacher training bases have been established at the College of William and Mary in the United States and the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom. It has established long-term cooperative relationships with world-renowned universities such as Oxford University in the United Kingdom and the University of California in the United States.
