Application form

1. The applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport and in good physical and mental health.


2. Applicants for the master's program must have a degree equivalent to a Chinese bachelor's degree, and applicants for a doctoral program must have a degree equivalent to a Chinese master's degree.

* Freshmen can submit the pre-graduation certificate issued by their school to confirm that they have completed their studies and obtained their degree by July 2021.


3. Before September 1, 2021, applicants for the master's program should be under 40 years old, and applicants for the doctoral program should be under 45 years old.

* Some scholarships have age restrictions for applicants. For related information, please refer to the specific scholarship application requirements.


4. Applicants who participate in Chinese-taught programs should pass the new HSK Level 4 or above; applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese, or those who can prove that their high school or university's teaching language is Chinese, can apply for HSK exemption. Applicants who participate in English-taught programs need to provide proof of English proficiency.


5. Applicants should meet the admission criteria for international students of the University of Science and Technology of China.


Application Procedures


1. Online application December 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021

* There is no need to contact the tutor during the application process. The International College will send the application materials to the department responsible for the online interview, and the department will match the mentor for the applicants who pass the online interview (provided that the online application must be completed).

* Please complete the application as soon as possible so that the school can review and promptly remind the applicant to correct or supplement the relevant materials.

2. Online interview April or May

* Each department that accepts international students is responsible for conducting online interviews.

* Departments will match mentors to applicants who pass the online interview.

3. Admission June or July

1.1 Create an account in the online application system

1.2 Fill in all the information and upload files as required


Application materials

  • Copy of passport (ordinary passport, valid for more than one year)
  • Research plan (not less than 800 words)
  • Resume
  • Two recommendation letters issued by professors or associate professors (with telephone number and email address)
  • "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" (download in the attachment)
  • Applicants participating in Chinese-taught programs must provide a copy of HSK Level 4 or above certificate, or provide other Chinese proficiency certificates; applicants participating in English-taught programs must provide a copy of valid IELTS or TOEFL scores, or provide other English Proof of proficiency (except for applicants whose native language is English)
  • Copy of bachelor's degree and master's degree (if any) certificates and transcripts certified by the Ministry of Education or equivalent institutions in the country/region where the applicant is located

* Freshman applicants must provide official documents to prove their student status and specify when they can obtain a degree certificate;

* If the applicant has graduated but has not yet obtained a degree certificate, an official document must be provided, explaining the reason and clearly when the degree certificate can be obtained;

* If the applicant is an on-the-job employee, he must provide a formal on-the-job certificate and a certificate that agrees to leave the job for further study.

※ If the above materials are not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation must be provided.

※ All application materials will not be returned.


2. Online interview

The expert team of the International College and related departments will review the online application materials and select candidates for online interviews based on the review results. The specific content, format, requirements and time arrangement of the online interview will be determined by each department and the applicant will be notified.



The expert team will comprehensively evaluate the applicant's academic performance, interview results, qualification certificates and other related materials, and give the final admission result.


Those who are admitted will receive the admission notice and the "Visa Application Form for Studying in China" (JW201/JW202). Admitted applicants should bring their original passports, admission notice, "Visa Application Form" (JW201/JW202), "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" and other original medical certificates to apply for students at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country Visa (X1 visa).


Admitted persons should register at the University of Science and Technology of China on the date specified in the admission notice and the above-mentioned documents. Candidates must enter China with ordinary passports and X1 visas.


Fees and scholarships

1. Tuition: Doctoral students: RMB 35,000 per academic year

Master's degree students: RMB 30,000 per academic year


2. Insurance fee: RMB 800 per academic year


3. On-campus accommodation fees: depending on the room type and size, ranging from 500 yuan to 1,000 yuan per month


4. Scholarship: Excellent applicants can apply for the University of Science and Technology of China scholarship, which includes tuition, insurance, monthly bursary (up to RMB 7,000 for doctoral students, and up to RMB 3,000 for master students) and accommodation subsidies.
