 "China-Africa Friendship" Project

The "China-Africa Friendship" Chinese Government Scholarship Program is a full scholarship program funded by the Ministry of Education of China. It is used by some Chinese universities to independently recruit outstanding international graduate students from African countries to study in China. Entrusted by the Ministry of Education, Wuhan University undertakes the implementation of this project and is responsible for recruiting outstanding international students from African countries to study for masters and doctoral degrees at Wuhan University.

 

(1) Enrollment category, major, and language of instruction

This project only enrolls full-time graduate students and doctoral students. The duration of the scholarship for master students is 2-3 years; the duration of the scholarship for doctoral students is 3-4 years; the duration of the scholarship is the length of study determined at the time of admission, including the duration of Chinese tuition and professional study. Enrollment majors and teaching languages are as follows, if any adjustments will be notified separately.

(2) Applicant qualifications

1. Citizens of African countries, in good health;

2. Those who come to China to study for a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree and be under 35 years of age; those who study for a Ph.D. degree in China must have a master's degree and are under 40 years of age;

3. Applicants for English-taught programs must provide proof of English proficiency, with a score of 80 for TOEFL and 5.5 for IELTS. Applicants who cannot provide a standardized English test certificate, applicants who used English in the previous stage of teaching must provide relevant certificates and conduct an English written test or interview;

Applicants whose mother tongue is English can be exempted from providing the above-mentioned English proficiency certificate;

Applicants for Chinese-taught programs can apply only if their Chinese proficiency has reached at least HSK Level 4 of the Chinese Proficiency Test. If you have a Chinese proficiency level above HSK Level 5 (inclusive), you can directly enter professional studies. Applicants who have not reached HSK Level 5 can apply for one-year Chinese tuition first, and only after reaching the Chinese proficiency requirements can they enter the professional study;

Applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese or who used Chinese in the previous stage of teaching must provide relevant certificates. Upon confirmation by our school, they can be exempted from providing HSK scores;

4. Non-other scholarship recipients for freshmen.

 

(3) Scholarship content

1. Tuition;

2. Accommodation fee;

3. Living expenses;

4. Comprehensive medical insurance;

5. International travel expenses: self-care.

(4) Application time

From January 1 to April 15, 2021, application materials submitted after April 15 will not be accepted.

 

(5) Application process

1. Log in to the "China Scholarship Council Online Application System for Studying in China" and fill in the application information. The admission code of Wuhan University is 10486, and the category of the "China-Africa Friendship" Chinese Government Scholarship is B. Prepare and submit corresponding materials by the requirements of the "application materials" list. After completing the online registration, the printing system will automatically generate the "Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form".

2. Log in to the "Online Application System for International Students of Wuhan University International Education College" and click the online registration entry, fill in the "Wuhan University Foreign Scholars Application Form", complete the online application and upload the scanned version of the application materials.

 

(6) Application materials

1. "Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form", filled out in Chinese or English;

2. "Wuhan University Foreign Scholars and International Students Application Form", filled out in Chinese or English;

3. Notarized undergraduate/master's degree graduation certificate, bachelor/master's degree certificate, and transcripts. If the applicant is a student at school, he/she must submit a pre-graduation certificate and transcript issued by the school where he/she is studying. The pre-graduation certificate must state the expected degree and graduation time. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations (one original and one copy each);

4. Study and research plan in China (800 words), written in Chinese or English;

5. Recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English;

6. Certificate of no criminal record, written in Chinese or English. Applicants must submit a valid non-criminal record certificate issued by the public security agency where they are located, usually within 6 months of the date of submission of the application;

7. A copy of the "Foreigner Physical Examination Form". Please bring the original with you when you come to China. This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese Health and Quarantine Department and must be completed in English or Chinese. Can be downloaded from the following website

Applicants should strictly follow the required items in the "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" to conduct inspections. The "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" that is missing, does not have a photo of the person affixed, or the photo is not stamped with a seam seal, is not signed and stamped by the doctor and the hospital is invalid. Because the examination result is valid for 6 months, the applicant is requested to determine the time for the physical examination accordingly;

8. The first page of the passport. Applicants must submit a clear scanned copy of the first page of a Japanese ordinary passport with a validity date later than March 1, 2022;

9. HSK proficiency certificates are required to apply for Chinese-taught majors; applicants who apply for English-taught majors whose native language is not English must submit English proficiency certificates (such as TOEFL or IELTS certificates);

10. If you have contacted a professor at Wuhan University and received a letter of acceptance, please attach it to the application materials;

11. If the applicant has studied or is currently studying in China, it is necessary to provide proof of school performance.

Note:

  • There is no application fee for the Chinese Government Scholarship "China-Africa Friendship" Project of Wuhan University. Applicants must apply directly to Wuhan University and cannot submit application materials through intermediary agencies.
  •  There is no need to mail paper materials when applying. Students who have passed the preliminary review of our school and received the mail must send a copy of the application materials to our school according to the mail notification. Among them, the degree certificate and transcript must provide a set of original notarized copies. Please do not bind the materials, please indicate the “China-Africa Friendship” scholarship on the cover Regardless of whether the applicant is admitted or not, the above application materials will not be returned;
  •  Incomplete application materials and incorrect school enrollment agency code information will not be accepted; please be sure to provide an accurate phone number, email address, and mailing address (including postal code and city name information);
  • In addition to the above materials, the school has the right to request applicants to provide other necessary application materials;

(7) admission and registration

1. Pre-admission information is generally notified to students by email in late May, and the final admission result will be notified at the end of July, and official admission materials will be sent out one after another.

2. Those who fail to register by the deadline on the admission notice will not be eligible for the scholarship;

3. Scholarship recipients are not allowed to change the admission institution, major of study, and study period stated in the "Admission Notice" after coming to China;

4. Scholarship recipients must participate in the annual scholarship review as required.
