Chang'an University is directly under the Ministry of Education and is one of the first batches of national "211 Project" key construction universities, the national "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" construction university, and the national "Double First-Class" construction university.
The school was founded at a time when all industries in New China were waiting to thrive, and when the wave of reforms was rising, it thrived in the power of higher education and has been in the same direction with the Republic for nearly 70 years. Since 1951, the predecessor of the school, Xi'an Highway College, Xi'an Institute of Geology, and Northwest Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture have been established one after another. In 1956, it began to recruit foreign students. In 1978, it began to recruit postgraduates. Beginning to recruit doctoral students in 1983. In 1997, it became the first batch of "211 Project" key construction universities. In 2000, the three universities merged to form Chang'an University, opening a new chapter in the school's leap-forward development. Since 2005, the Ministry of Education has successively signed agreements with the Ministry of Transport (now Ministry of Transport), Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Land and Resources (now Ministry of Natural Resources), and Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development to jointly build Chang'an University.
