Yunnan Minzu University is a comprehensive university that trains senior professionals of various ethnic groups. It is a provincial key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and the People's Government of Yunnan Province. The school was founded on August 1, 1951, formerly known as Yunnan Minzu University. It is one of the earliest ethnic colleges and universities established in the People's Republic of China. It was renamed Yunnan Minzu University in April 2003. It has been 70 years since then.

 

Since the establishment of the school, the school has always been highly valued and cared for by the party and state leaders. The school has now become a comprehensive university with a complete range of disciplines and distinctive school-running characteristics, covering 10 disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. With ethnology, sociology, national language and literature, and Southeast Asian and South Asian languages and cultures as the advantages and characteristics, the discipline and professional structure of equal emphasis on liberal arts and sciences and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The school focuses on foreign cooperation and exchanges and is an important window for the country and Yunnan to open up to the outside world. To further integrate into the national strategy and give full play to its geographical advantages, in December 2014, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education agreed to add Yunnan Nationalities University to become the second batch of China-ASEAN Education and Training Center undertakers. In December 2016, with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, our school established the Lanmei Vocational Education Base based on the China-ASEAN Education and Training Center. At the same time, the school has established two training centers in Kunming and Germany in the China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
