Outstanding Freshman Scholarship 

1. Outstanding Freshman Scholarship Objects

Applicants who are going to study at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology with a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Chinese language advanced student should be in good health.

 

2. Conditions for the evaluation of outstanding freshmen scholarships

2.1 Excellent academic performance (applicants need to provide proof of their highest academic qualifications and transcripts);

2.2 The study period of students applying for Chinese language advanced studies is one year or more;

2.3 Applicants who apply for Chinese-taught majors must obtain a certificate of HSK level 6 or above in the Chinese Proficiency Test;

2.4 Students who apply for English-taught majors need to provide IELTS or TOEFL or GRE or PET certificates, or they need to take the freshman entrance English test organized by the Zhejiang University of Science and Technology and obtain excellent results.

Recipients of the Outstanding Freshman Scholarship cannot repeatedly apply for the Outstanding Freshman Scholarship, Outstanding Chinese Language Advanced Student Scholarship, and Academic Diligence Award during the period of the Outstanding Freshman Scholarship, but they can apply for other scholarships.

 

3. The level and quota of outstanding freshman scholarship

Scholarships for outstanding freshmen are divided into three categories:

The funding amount for the first prize is 100% of the tuition for a school year;

The second prize subsidy is 70% of the tuition fee for the academic year;

The funding amount for the third prize is 50% of the tuition for a school year.

The proportion of outstanding freshmen awards is as follows: the proportion of first-class scholarship, second-class scholarship, and third-class scholarship recipients are 2%, 4%, and 6% of the number of freshmen.

 

4. Application materials for outstanding freshman scholarship

4.1 "Zhejiang University of Science and Technology Foreign Student Scholarship Application Form", filled out in Chinese or English;

4.2 Notarized highest education certificate. If the applicant is a student at school, a certificate of enrollment issued by the school must be submitted. Non-Chinese and English versions must be attached with corresponding notarized Chinese or English translations;

4.3 Notarized academic transcripts;

4.4 Letter of recommendation from the graduate school, written in Chinese or English;

4.5 Health certificate (copy);

4.6 Certificate of Chinese Proficiency Test Level 6 or above (for applicants applying for Chinese-taught majors);

4.7 IELTS certificate with 5.5 points and above or TOEFL certificate with 80 points and above or GRE test with 1400 points and above certificate or PET level 3 and above certificate, or enrolled in Zhejiang University of Science and Technology as a freshman Proof of good results in English exams (for applicants applying for English-taught majors).

 

5. Application Procedures for Outstanding Freshman Scholarship

Applicants for the Fall Entrance Outstanding Freshman Scholarship must submit application materials to the Admissions Office of the International Students Center on May 30 each year. Applicants for the Spring Entrance Outstanding Freshman Scholarship must submit their application materials to international students before December 10th of each year. The admissions office of the center will not be accepted after the deadline.

 

The International Student Center organizes the preliminary selection of outstanding freshmen scholarships, reviews the application materials received, and pushes the materials of students who have passed the preliminary selection to the scholarship review committee of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology for review, and the final list is drawn and publicized. At the end of the first semester, the International Student Center must review the academic performance, learning attitude, and behavior of foreign students who have received freshman scholarships. Students who have failed courses in the first semester or missed classes for up to 20 class hours, missed exams, cheating on exams, or received warnings and above disciplinary sanctions are not eligible for the freshman scholarship in the second semester. Students who pass the review will continue to enjoy the freshman scholarship for the second semester.
